I bought this off ebay, took it all apart and got the carts to work and the disks to spin. but I noticed it starts to spin clockwise, ( like the one I have that works ), but quickly changes direction, and can't find either an audio or game disk. Everything is connected properly and the splash sceen comes up... I just get the ?.. All the caps are fine, and I have cleaned the head, and I do have a replacement mechanism for it - I just thought someone might have an Idea before I have to replace the CD mechanism.

Does it actually drive the disc in the other direction for a long period of time or does it only spin "backwards" for a second or two before stopping?

If the former then there is definitely a problem, if the latter that is not unusual as to stop the disc turning quickly a large pulse of the opposite polarity to normal drive is delivered to the drive motor essentially driving it hard in the opposite direction. Sometimes depending on the relative speed on the motor at the time this causes the motor and therefore the disc to rotate for a turn or two in the opposite direction.

This reverse direction is not noticeable in CD units with a tray as unlike the Jag CD unit...

a ) There is no window to allow you to see the reverse spin and

b ) When the disc is ejected any remaining reverse direction rotation is stopped by friction when the disc is dropped onto the tray as it opens.
