walter_J64bit
Ok, I've seen mods on A8's so this just pop out at me. I've got two chips that are piggyback one other and some wires running to two other chip on the motherboard.
locnar77
what is the chip that is piggybacked? your pictures are really fuzzy when i try to blow them up, kinda looks like the video shifter. might be a video upgrade, more colors? locnar77
if it is a video upgrade, really not much you can do with it, unless you are doing animation or pictures.

Rybags
I suspect the shifter/video upgrades are a bit more complex - possibly it's a mod to allow HD floppy drives to be used... I think that requires feeding the FDC double it's normal clock rate.
Christos
Unless I am terribly mistaken, this isn't a mod at all, but normal for an STE. At least I've seen it in multiple images of the STE motherboard. Edited November 13, 2014 by Christos
huggyone76
Like Christos, I think that's just standard hardware debugging. Look at that : http://www.yaronet.com/posts.php?sl=9&s=86463
