Christmas Carol Magnet?

First Spear

Recommended Posts

After I posted my comment to you, I did some digging in my e-mail archives and found a conversation Joe and I had on giving away magnets at CGE 2012 to promote the game, and I vaguely remember having them around.

However, I do not see them in photos of our booth at CGE, but I do distinctly remember them now. Perhaps we gave them away with the PAL recall replacement carts, or maybe they were inside the CGE 2012 Special Edition. I think I have some left, but my stuff is still all packed away while we find a house to move into, which has taken longer than expected (damn this NC house market!)

I was not at CGE, but I faintly recall being a very early order-placer around game release time. Maybe a few extras were dumped in some shipments just to clear off the shelf.... Regardless I could use a new one, please feel free to stop your life and make a new batch and ship me a couple. :) Mine sits on the side of the refrigerator all year until Christmas time and then it gets to the front.

Were you at CGE in 2012? I'm thinking that's either where they came from or right afterwards.

I think that's what happened. I have a vague notion that we gave them away at CGE 2012 for promotion, and then slipped them into the boxes afterwards until we ran out.

I'll get right on it. :P

Aha. I should have probably done this before I started this thread... I checked my PayPal transaction history and see that I bought Christmas Carol Item #LTO-03 from Joe Zbiciak on November 15. That's pretty close to the end of CGE, so that makes sense.

In all seriousness, this is just a hobby, but I love to see other Intellivision lovers get paid. It's a little late in the year, but you (DZ-Jay) have kind of "owned" Christmas in this area, so some kind of promo items like magnets or pens or mousepads or something might sell pretty well if you put them out each year.

Those are the first batch after CGE, which contain the bug fix already. So I guess Joe included magnets as a token of good will. :)

That's OK, I have a day job that pays me rather well. I do this purely for fun; I love Christmas and I love sharing joy with others, and I really have no interest in merchandising--except for the stuff I give away as prizes. I also include little gifts, like stickers and things like that, on every package I post going to fellow Intellivision fans. :)

I did make a batch of magnets. Early in the production process, we had some cartridge labels that were printed with the wrong dimensions. I mounted them on magnet-backed vinyl and sliced them into nice fridge-magnets.

I made a couple dozen and sent them out with the early orders. It was pretty random. :-)

Around that time I was also in the middle of moving to a new house, so if you ask me who got them... I have no idea.

Thanks for the details, mystery solved! At least I know it wasn't my memory playing tricks on me. :)
