Bixler
Hey guys, quick question. I'm using an s-video modded 2600 on a Sony PVM. Here's what the picture looks like: http://imgur.com/UTuyC1I I'm in love with the quality, but is there any way to make the picture fill up more of the screen? Thank you! Sorry if that sounded dumb lol. I'm not a tech savvy person at all.
OldSchoolRetroGamer
I would guess there are settings on the front or back for such adjustments, have you tried them all?
Bixler
I'm afraid I looked through the whole settings menu and the only thing relevant to the picture was aspect ratio (4:3), color, and brightness.
+Mitch
Pincushion, v size and h size are what you should be looking for. I don't have that model PVM so I can't tell you where those settings are located. You can try looking online for the manual. Mitch
+Nathan Strum
Also, check to see if there's an underscan setting. PVMs that support it generally have a button on the front panel, but it could be a menu option as well. Pincushioning that severe may not be completely fixable. skosh
What model # is your PVM? There should be a key combination to get into the service mode to expose the settings that Mitch mentioned in his last post.
gilsaluki
That's strange, never seen it squeezed in the middle section like that.
Bixler
My PVM is 14L1. Thanks for the input guys, I'll have a look into some of this. There's an option for 16:9 resolution, would that help...? Edited December 15, 2014 by Bixler
+Nathan Strum
No. The 16:9 button is for anamorphic 16:9 content (widescreen DVDs, for example). All it will do is squash the picture vertically.
Bixler
Here are the menu images, maybe this will help? http://imgur.com/a/laRgr Edited December 15, 2014 by Bixler
+Nathan Strum
You're going to need the service manual. You may need to have someone crack it open and adjust the pots inside. Given how often better monitors pop up on eBay, it's not worth the cost to have it repaired.
Bixler
Damn. Alright, thank you. Due to my limited space + college student finances, I'll stick with what I have and be thankful for the great picture quality. Thanks for the input! +Mitch
Entering the service mode Simultaneously press the [ENTER] key and the [MENU] key shown on the display of the menu 3 seconds or more. Exiting service mode uses the same key combo. The settings you want are under the DEF menu selection. Just be careful in there. Thomas Jentzsch
Alternatively try to get one of those. I have recently bought the Sony (for ~$30), and the picture is really great. Also the tube is completely flat.

Just be careful in there. Mitch Pressing these two buttons in conjunction took me to an entirely new menu. Would people mind if I posted pictures of these menus as well in a bit? I think I see what I need to do, but I did some research and still cannot figure out quite which settings to set to which numbers. Thank you so much, you've all been a great help so far. Above and beyond, but what else can I expect from AA. Edited December 15, 2014 by Bixler

+Nathan Strum
Most likely Deflection -> Geometry... Yep. That's where I'd start.
Bixler
I went to Deflection > Geometry and was presented with this menu: http://imgur.com/PgcgkvF UPDATE: I altered V SIZE and H SIZE and while the screen is still "pincushioned," it is better than it was. +Nathan Strum
Adjust pin amp and corner pin. Just write down where you started so you can go back if needed.
R.Cade
It may be that it needs a cap kit...
Bixler
Fiddled with some settings but couldn't really fix the pincushion affect. Ah well, doesn't affect the gameplay at all, and the picture is very sharp, so it could be worse. Thank you for all of your help!
+Mitch
Adjust pin amp and corner pin. Just write down where you started so you can go back if needed. This. And check V Bow. These are under the deflection menu and then geometry. Mitch
