ataridave
Yep, I own a 5200; the two-port version. When I play Astrochase or Rescue on Fractalus, the screen freezes. The reset button on the controller (which is a rebuilt 5200 controller) doesn't reset the game-I have to turn the 5200 off, and then back on again. I cleaned the contacts on Astrochase, but I have no idea how to get into Rescue on Fractalus, if the contacts on these games are the problem. Which I hope they are! If it helps, I'm using RF, (with a video cable-no switchbox) and have the 5200 turned to channel 3.
ataridave
I finished cleaning the contacts on Astrochase, and the game still freezes. Any advice would be welcome.
ataridave
http://atariage.com/forums/topic/231588-two-port-5200-video-problem-help/ I just read through this thread, so nevermind. I apologize for not having read it before I started this thread; it was never my intention to clog the boards. ataridave
Is it just me, or does the Atari 2600 just have a better build quality then the 5200, or Intellivsion? (Or the Colecovision, for that matter?). Because I own a 2600 jr. and have owned a 4-switch 2600, and I haven't had the kind of issues that I had with the 5200 and the Intv III. chas10e
I'd say the 2600 is a pretty durable & reliable unit I got super lucky with my 5200 .... works really well even as a 4 port unit & a pleasure to have I wished I had more technical info to offer, I'm sure someone smart will read this thread & chime in
ataridave
So, today, I took the screws out of the bottom of my 5200, and the mother board, along with the connectors inside the cartridge slot, looked very clean. There were a few small pieces of black plastic that fell out that had been moving around inside the system. I put it back together, and am still having the same video problems. At this point, I'm wondering if it would help at all to clean out the connectors, or use some compressed air to get out any dust?
