Gabriel
I'm on a bit of a shooter kick and I decided to play some of my PS1 shooters on my PS3. One of these is a game I've liked in the past called Gekioh Shooting King. This time I didn't like it so much, mainly because there didn't seem to be any music in the main game modes. I don't recall the game lacking music, but it's been a while since I've played it. I understand this game is available on PSN under it's original name of Shienryu. Does that version have music? I checked a few websites, but I'm still not clear on this question. I've seen some comments that Gekioh has a very low volume soundtrack compared to Shienryu. That may be, but on my PS3 while playing the disc there was absolutely nothing but explosion and bullet sound FX. I saw something about how Shienryu doesn't have Gekioh's alternate joke play modes, but that's not a big deal.
Giltygear
Gekioh's music will not play on the PS3 for some reason - Ive tried my copies on 4 of them and none play music. I dont know how the DL-able version fares, I havent bought that release. I'd be curious to know, tho. My PS1 plays the disc perfectly, so Im sure its just a playback problem. AFAIK, there are a few PS1 games that dont play 100% correctly on PS3s - MK Trilogy also hangs at a black screen after you beat the last opponent in single-player
Jess Ragan
I played this on the Saturn years ago. It's a pretty good game, if you don't mind the fact that it's distressingly similar to the first two Raiden titles. There are differences, but they're largely trivial. Giltygear
Gekioh/Shienryu is basically a remake of the arcade game Daioh. /knowledge dropped
onmode-ky
I understand this game is available on PSN under it's original name of Shienryu. Does that version have music? I thought this question had already been answered (and maybe it has been, somewhere else, in the months since you asked), but I just went and checked on my PS3. Yes, what I have, the North American PS Store's version of Arcade Hits: Shienryu, has music during gameplay. No music in the menus, which I assume is normal. I saw something about how Shienryu doesn't have Gekioh's alternate joke play modes, but that's not a big deal. If you cursor down at the main menu, there's Nuruiryu (an easy mode), Muzuiryu (a hard mode), and then an Omake extras selection. Omake contains a variety of play modes, which I guess could be considered joke modes; if that's what you're talking about, then yes, it's in Shienryu. onmode-ky
