VectorGamer
We regret to announce that we will not be holding the International Classic Video Game Tournament this year. http://www.funspotnh.com/events.htm Wow! Why?
Cynicaster
Bound to happen eventually. As the number of people in the country actually caring about competitive arcade gaming ticks down from about 200 to 40 or so, these kinds of events start to fall by the wayside. As the number of people in the country actually caring about competitive arcade gaming ticks down from about 200 to 40 or so, these kinds of events start to fall by the wayside. I remember the number of participants in the 2010 tourney was around 150. Unfortunately, I don't recall what the numbers were at the 2012 and 2014 tournaments I participated in. The participation at the last two tourneys I was at may have been down from 2010 but not anything near 40 participants. The CAGDC tourney I was in spring of 2010 had a little over 40 players. I think last year's CAGDC tourney in Chicago had no more than 20 players. Hopefully, the decision not to have a tourney at Funspot this year has to do with the renovations they're doing. If that's the case, I would think they would find a way to hold the tourney while they renovate.Wish they would just come out and state exactly why there's not going to be a tournament. I get what you are saying, but I think it also has to with dubious score keeping from T.G. and all the bogus stuff that actually went certified. I think the interest is there, but some (most) are disillusioned by the scam scores that preferred people supposedly got from the T.G. refs. I personally destroyed the Crazy Climber record and never received ANYTHING from T.G. about my vid. After that I was of the mind that some or most of what I read online was true.
chas10e
it's not because of lack of interest ... http://www.classicarcademuseum.org/ACAM-Article-2014-Tournament.htm EDIT: I guess Aurcade didn't get the news yet http://www.aurcade.com/events/view.aspx?id=162 Event: 17th Annual Classics Championship Details Date(s): May 28-31, 2015 Location: Funspot - also includes ACAM Players: 0 Scores: 0 Description No Description Available Edited January 30, 2015 by chas10e

chas10e
I don't forsee going to http://www.gallopingghostarcade.com/current-events/ 05/28/15 to 06/01/15 – Galloping Ghost Arcade T20 Arcade TournamentJoin us for a major arcade high score tournament at the Galloping Ghost Arcade! The main tournament will consist of 20 games that will be announced at the start of the tournament!Full stream coverage. Cash & prizes to the winners! This will be the first of an annual event. With Funspot unable to run their tournament this year, we hopethat we can accommodate the high score community. In the future, the tournament date will be later inthe year to avoid conflict with Funspot’s established event.Do not miss this high scoring event! I had heard Funspot will be open normal hours & some may be gathering at that time there

They would work with Aurcade to do so. I don't think it's confirmed yet, but there may still be an event of some kind at Fun Spot that weekend. Those same guys have an Aurcade-sanctioned tourney out west (at Grinker's Grand Palace, Eagle, ID) in the fall that will have its third annual event this year, and they seem to get pretty decent turnouts. Best part is, they get more "regular" players, rather than the same good-ol-boys club.

There's not a single post there about this tournament. Anyway, Galloping Ghost is going to have a tournament at their arcade the weekend Funspot was to have theirs. I started a separate thread here on AA. I read on KLOV that people are talking of getting together at Funspot anyway.

Austin
Those wanting another classic arcade tournament might want to consider the one being held at ReplayFX, a gaming and pinball event being held in Pittsburgh sometime in July. They are holding multiple tournaments (including Pinburgh), but one of the main events is a classic arcade tournament. http://replayfx.org/
