Mclaneinc
I'll explain.. I have loads of disks that are simply odd numbers etc, simply looking at each one in turn is long winded, what styles program does in look at the disk index and it creates a screen dump of the files on the disk named after the disk its checked, now you can batch process huge numbers of disks and you get a visual index of what is on all those disks. You can then see if its simply a randam data disk or there's invidual things you could strip off and maybe find the odd rarity. On the Atari because there's sector loading stuff obviously not all disc will make and sense of a graphical index type dump and you also have the hassle of custom DOS's which make listing disk contents hit and miss. Has anyone ever done a program of this sort that will batch process disks and provide either a file directory listing or a picture? Just trying to organise my collection of unknowns a tad easier.. flashjazzcat
I'm sure there was a program like this published as a type-in listing in a later issue of New Atari User. "Disk database" or something like that.
AtariGeezer
I know what you mean, I have over 600 A8 floppies and more in ATR's. I've been contemplating adding a function in my ATR Tools re-write to save directory contents by either a picture or saving to a CSV formatted file for later searches. Since it already handles reading the directory of most DOS formats, this wouldn't be hard to implement...
+Larry
Are you looking for a PC (Win) program or native Atari? If I understand you correctly, you are looking for a disk database (as FJC mentions)? If you're happy with an Atari version, there are quite a number of those available. Actually, it would be pretty difficult to do on a PC, I think, since you would need somehow to read the directories of (real) single density disks. Let me look at what I've got... -Larry
Mclaneinc
I'm not fussy Larry but I'd imagine a PC version would be easier to handle especially with batch processing almost a must.

I'd love to see it...Very handy for us collectors..

+Larry
Here are a few that I had handy: Probably every major Atari magazine published one or more of these over the years. I don't have anything for the PC, but I can tell you that by using the APE "Remote Control Tools" it is possible to batch process ATR's. It may not be possible on the "trial" version. On the Disk Catalogers ATR, there are two parts beginning with DISKINDX.*. The next three files DISKLOG2 and SUPR*.* belong to SUPERDISK.BXE. The last six files are from SAGECAT, another popular cataloger that runs under Turbo Basic XL. The other ATR and DOC file are from the APX diskette Librarian (also available at atariarchives.org). -Larry Edit: By "batch process" I mean that you can have a large number of ATR's in a Win folder, and then remotely mount and eject them (and process them). This is all done via SIO commands that APE understands. Diskcat.zip

Kyle22
Here http://www.page6.org/pd_lib/special/disks/ds042.zip is one that my friend Bob Buman wrote. I haven't used it in a while, but I believe it has a batch mode that asks how many disks you want to scan. You then catalog them by number. Hope you can use it. Mclaneinc
Been playing around and all the disk atr mounting is ok but a pain with so many files (not tried the ape process as yet). I did have a look at Atarigeezers ATR tools and played with hte first update as no others were about to look at and it seems perfect if Jay adds the options he spoke about in the thread, I'd be happy to wait for that to come whenever its done. BUT thanks all, I'm still playing with the suggestions and really grateful for the responses.. Cheers Paul...
