Guitari
So, here I am with a 7800 after having 2600 for over 30 years and a full jaguar and full lynx collection. I know exactly the titles I like and have complied a list of games I'd like to obtain. this time I'm going to limit the collection to those I like only, boxed with instructions and PAL. This is my initial list Ballblazer (ordered) Xevious Pole Position 2 Galaga Gorf Desert Falcon Scrapyard Dog I already have Planet Smashers and Ikari Warriers I have 3 titles I don't want Matmania Karatkea Basketbrawl Any fancy trades? I think the ones I don't want are probably not sought after!
Jinks
Forget Gorf. There is no such thing.. Welcome to 7800 world. Try homebrews later on for more enjoyment.
DracIsBack
I have 3 titles I don't want Matmania Karatkea Basketbrawl Any fancy trades? I think the ones I don't want are probably not sought after! Karateka is extremely common and universally despised. The other two are pretty late releases and quite rare, so trade like for like. I liked Basketbrawl myself, but can't stand Mat Mania.
Guitari
Ok. Thanking you. Happy to trade the rarer ones for any I need. PM please if interested.

I thought I'd seen a 7800 gorf YouTube. Definitely going to explore the homebrews; I hope ththere are some pal versions available.
Guitari
Ok so the unit I got suffers heavily from that screen blurring through RF. Would the composite mod solve this? Does the composite mod remove the rf unit? Anyone in the UK doing this mod? (Console Passion perhaps). thanks guys.

Guitari
Anyone interested in these? They'll go on the bay later - I have limited room in my house
Mayhem
Yeah, get that baby modded, the picture is so much better.
Guitari
Will do! So it's the rf causing the localised blur?? And.composite will solve this?
Mayhem
The RF isn't brilliant, composite provides a much clearer image.
nsargent
My modded 7800 is amazing. The picture is way bettter than my modded 2600, and the joystick ports and difficulty switches on the front make like so much easier for an old duffer like me. Yeah I agree get it modded, you wont regret it. And mine is a PAL too! Edited March 30, 2015 by nsargent
Classic Pac
Your forgetting the best 2 player game on the 7800 Centipede, that co-op mode is incredibly fun. Also you should think about getting Food Fight, it's really fun.
Smoke Monster
I would suggesting going with s-video instead of composite. I have both on my system and s-video is light years clearer. Composite is a nice step up from RF, but it's still blurry and suffers from ghosting.I'm with Classic Mac, Food Fight is where it's at. You're going to love the 7800 Galaga. I would probably put Joust and Centipede at the top of your list too.
Guitari
Thanks guys. I did hear somewhere here that s-video is being dropped by TV makers now?? I wonder if the mod is easy for me to do myself. I did region mod a Jaguar. (Is there a region mod for 7800?) Food fight didn't really appeal to me when I youtubed it. Centipede I have on 2600 (or that could be millipede). I also have it on Lynx. I have Joust on lynx and it kind of bores me.
phoenixdownita
The success of the SVideo mod is related to the TV you are using, I have one that loses sync every 5 sec so its unusable, another one is instead fine. But this is for NTSC land, not sure if the same issue plagues PAL as well. At least PAL does not have to deal with adjusting tint for the 7800 because NTSC std changed along the way and Atari shipped the old way. Smoke Monster
S-video to composite adapters are only $1.50/shipped if you ever needed to go back. Having s-video available will vastly increase your picture quality if you get a scaler, high-end CRT, or AVR that accepts it. Guitari
I've had a look at the mod types available and I like the sound of the s-video mod that doesn't require the removal of a chip. However this seems to have only one audio out. The composite mod has left and right audio out. So I have no idea what to do now. I don't mind S-video not being on newer TVs ( I have it) as there's a composite adapter available. I'm totally ready to get this mod done but don't know what to go for. +Mitch
The 7800 only outputs mono, the "stereo" outputs on the mod are likely just two mono outputs. You can get two channel mono out of the 2600, it's not really stereo either though. I would just get a RCA jack splitter if you need to hook it up to a stereo left/right speaker system. Guitari
Thanks Mitch, I find this odd - even though 7800 outputs mono why would there on be one audio out included on the mod when in all cases people are going to hook it up to a stereo TV? Surely it would only come out of either left or right without a spitter.
Guitari
Ok so these are the ones for trades if anyone's int. They're PAL. Sold.

Jinks
Or get Centipede-TB from here so you have native Trak-Ball support for the CX-22 or CX-80. Too bad the track balls are rare as no game I ever played supports them. Never seen one in person by any atari friend. Which one is better of the two? Just so I know if I ever look for one to go with the one game that it could be used for.
+save2600
I have both model trackballs and prefer the feel of the older CX22 model. Like the looks of it better as well. All black CX80 model is a little less comfortable, but works well enough and looks sharp next to your Jr., Vadar or 7800.Seems to me the fire buttons aren't always so responsive on the black model either, but could just be my unit. Honestly, I use a Sega Sports Pad trackball more than either of the Atari's. Guess I like the feel of that one best as it's a little smaller. Lynxpro
Too bad the track balls are rare as no game I ever played supports them. Never seen one in person by any atari friend. Which one is better of the two? Just so I know if I ever look for one to go with the one game that it could be used for. I don't remember them being rare. I had a CX-22 for my 2600. Definitely get it as long as it has the toggle switch to go between Joystick and Trak-Ball mode. Apparently the CX-80 doesn't have that. Missile Command - TB for the 2600 here at AtariAge supports it, Centipede-TB for the 7800, and now Gambler's and Blue's Millipede hack on the 7800 supports it. Of course, the ultimate Trak-Ball is the CX-53 on the 5200. I've heard EA's version of Marble Madness for the Genesis supports the Sega [Master System] Sports Pad trackball. Supposedly, the Tengen version for the Japanese market also does but somehow doesn't support it as well. I'm not yet convinced it's a true native trackball though; most likely a joystick emulator like the Wico model. As for the suck-age that is 7800 Karateka, I'd love to see someone mod the 7800 with a 65816 to see if it works and speeds up the game play like it does on the XE [Rescue on Fractalus too]. We're probably still SOL though since I'm sure the MARIA would try to halt the CPU more than the Antic does on the A8 computers.
