Ikari Warriors Released By: Atari Corp 1989 Left Difficulty: B Right Difficulty: B Game Mode: Default The HSC Record for Ikari Warriors: 75,200 by toymailman Post your scores right here in this thread, and we will add them to the list. The deadline for posting scores is Midnight (EST) the evening of April 12th, 2015 Rambo Bonus: Ikari Warriors was inspired by the Rambo film series! So: (+1) Post a pic * the picture must be a screenshot or partial screenshot from an Atari 2600 game * showing something John Rambo might like or make use of! * this can be be something unmistakeable, or you can get creative, BUT * if it's not clearly obvious (like a box of grenades or huge knife), please tell us why he would! * make it a game not already used for this bonus (+1) Tell a story * tell us what you would do with this item if you were John Rambo in John Rambo's situation * it can be any situation from a Rambo film, comic, novel or unused film script. * include a pic from wherever this situation derives for a final additional (+1). (for this last bonus point you're at a disadvantage if it comes from a novel or unused script, but maybe you can pull something out) Ikari Warriors High Scores (Scoring is +1 point for last place and up from there) (Scoring MAX points or beyond is considered ROLLAGE) (Pics of scores over 98% MAX points are sufficient to show ROLLAGE) 93,700 MoomUnit (+25)(+3)(+1) record-breaker! 92,400 Northcoastgamer (+24)(+3)(+1) record-breaker! 56,600 StanJr (+23)(+3) 53,100 Hyperboy (+22)(+3) 31,600 Tony The 2600 (+21)(+3) 28,100 voodoo_chilly (+20)(+3) 25,800 oyamafamily (+19) 25,600 S.BAZ (+18)(+3) 24,300 KaeruYojimbo (+17)(+2) 19,700 Gorfy (+16)(+2) 17,600 Dauber (+15) 16,500 LidLikesIntellivision (+14) 15,900 Scrabbler15 (+13) 15,400 darthkur (+12)(+1) 13,800 Retrogamer81081 (+11) 13,700 keilbaca (+10) 7,200 roadrunner (+9) 7,000 LarcenTyler (+8 ) 6,900 JacobZu7zu7 (+7) 6,700 Spacey Invader (+6)(+3) 4,400 karokoenig (+5)(+3) 3,900 Mister-VCS (+4) 3,100 Zeptari1 (+3) 2,100 GornThrifting (+2)(+1) 1,500 jblenkle (+1) Rambo Bonus (+3) karokoenig would hijack a helicopter from Chopper Command & wreak havoc on the Vietnamese & Russians! (+3) Tony The 2600 would take the chopper from Chopper Command and blow it down with an arrow like in Rambo III ! (+3) MoomUnit (as the Weird Al version of Rambo) would nab a big ass gun from Outlaw and then, bellowing angrily and frustratedly, blast off hundreds of rounds of explosives into the air. (+3) voodoo_chilly's got Rambo taking the javelin from Activision Decathlon -- to give him a better spear for hunting enemies from a distance! (+3) Northcoastgamer would use the machine gun from Commando to stop Coleco from finishing Zaxxon & set them up for a zombie attack! (+3) S.BAZ would take the oil-slick from Spy Hunter so he can look the part while fighting to the death for cash. (+3) Spacey Invader would hijack the microscopic ship from Fantastic Voyage for a more civilized kill: slamming into artery walls and preserving blood clots! (+2) KaeruYojimbo would take the timeship from Time Pilot -- to go back & prevent Ikari Warriors from ever existing! (+2) Gorfy: Rambo swipes some cannonball bombs from Kaboom! ...and blows up the Gene Siskel institution for his bad-mouthing Rambo movies! (+1) GornThrifting would go for the bow in Robin Hood (and if that's not a Rambo weapon I don't know what is) (+1) darthkur prefers the van from Cat Trax since Rambo would actually need something to lug around all the ammo he blows off! GornThrifting
From the manual: To toss grenades, hold down the fire button for one or two secondsuntil the grenade launches. I'm tempted to post a pineapple from Pac-Man for the bonus. As kids, my friends and I were all convinced it was a grenade!
karokoenig
Gee... what a... what a... game. Here's my score: 4,400. The item is a helicopter out of Chopper Command. Now, if I were Rambo... I probably would have taken it over from the pilot, whose name is Cpt. Obvious, and wreaked havoc on the Vietnamese and Russian forces alike. Even the other helicopters with the bigger racks (see picture). Then I would have proceeded flying west from South East Asia across the continent to help kick the Russkies out of Afghanistan and install a new government. But that is a story for another war. StanJr
1900 Don't expect much from me this week. Emulation without a joystick, plus a really...interesting game. I think this is probably a better game than I am getting via emulation. Seems a LOT like Commando and I like Commando.
StanJr
5600 Ok, so much like the horrible NES version of Ikari Warriors, the trick here is learning where each enemy spawns and shooting that spot as they generate. Still wish I had a joystick for this one...
+KaeruYojimbo
4,300 Can I just play Zaxxon for another week?
oyamafamily
IKARI WARRIORS - PARTICIPATION POINTS - 25,800 PICTURE: VIDEO (Emulation paused for some seconds at 12:00 mark after I rescued Colonel): Picture and video sent to S.BAZ and JacobZu7zu7 The 2600 version of Ikari Warriors I don't enjoy very much. I prefer the 7800 version of this game, which is better to play.
S.BAZ
6,200 sadly I don't have this game either. using the keyboard so far but I got a remedy for that definitely not the best game in the world my brother (MODUG) & I always like these Commando-type games, and the crappier the better. (for the comedy-factor) i think this game is kind of a hilarious effort for 1989! Super Mario Bros 3 has been out for a year & someone thought hey why not market Ikari Warriors for the 2600 but my brother was actually impressed as well as amused with this & it's one of his preferred games for the system!

StanJr
8000 Why am I losing a life every time I exit the tank? I'm holding the button for 2 seconds and I exit just fine, but I also lose a life?
voodoo_chilly
8000 Why am I losing a life every time I exit the tank? I'm holding the button for 2 seconds and I exit just fine, but I also lose a life? I don't know...but I watched oyama video and he doesn't even use the tank. He shoots it (his own) and travels by foot.
StanJr
14800 Yeah, I think I figured it out. I'm waiting too long to vacate. You need to start the process with at least 5 seconds to go, otherwise you don't make it out in time. I've thought about forgoing the tank, but I like the protection. As I suspected, the key to this game is the same as the NES, make the game as slow and boring as possible, scrolling one enemy on to the screen at time, shoot them, repeat. The good news is my logitech gamepad works with my laptop so I can at least make an honest effort at this.
+KaeruYojimbo
8,200 For the bonus, I have the timeship from Time Pilot. If I were John Rambo I would use it to go back to 1989 and stop this game from ever happening! Also, I would like to second the motion that we declare Oyama the winner and move on.
StanJr
I retract my previous statement. 26500 Also, I got to that Colonel. That is super sweet. While a little tedious, this game has a LOT of nice bells and whistles. You can tell it's late gen. Edited April 5, 2015 by StanJr
oyamafamily
Ok, I declare oyama this week's winner. Next game please. Stan Jr., it's very early to declare me as winner. I'm absolutely DONE with my 25,800-point score in this game. This contest makes me want to play Ikari on 7800 system - it's more irresistible to play. Here's a video just to prove I prefer the 7800 version.
+KaeruYojimbo
16,900 I'm done. This game is very impressive technically, but it's such a chore to play.

Gorfy
I'm grateful for the opportunity to play this game since it's one I actually bought CIB from Venezuela a few years back That being said, the game seems to be a poor man's version of Frontline, with some Commando elements thrown in. Could be worse Score: 16,700
JacobZu7zu7
6,900 The game goes on and on... and on. I'm only at 6ks, but felt like forever lol.
Hyperboy
Bonus: I would steal the horse from Stampede and initiate a scorched earth policy ala Sherman's march to the sea. Burn those villages of terror down! Why the long face??
MoomUnit
So I've checked with the three used video game stores in my area, and no one has a copy of Ikari Warriors.I strongly dislike using emulators, and I hate (HATE HATE HATE) using the keyboard to play games intended for a joystick. But I may just have to bite the bullet. Can someone walk me through the process of choosing and downloading and getting an Atari 2600 emulator to run? I'm just using a basic Toshiba PC laptop. UPDATE: I just bought a new Atari 2600 style joystick with USB. So let's give this emulator thing a whirl. karokoenig
Can someone walk me through the process of choosing and downloading and getting an Atari 2600 emulator to run? http://stella.sourceforge.net/ I use Stella. It's so simple even I can handle it without causing core meltdown in my laptop. And that's saying a lot.
S.BAZ
Stella rocks! i enjoy using the keyboard for some games but definitely not this one...
StanJr
Definitely Stella. And despite having only a 5 rarity in the database, I've seen Ikari Warrior maybe once or twice ever, in the wild or at a con. Would love to have a copy at R5 prices! Emu is not my preferred way to play, either, but it works in a pinch! I'm using a Logitech Precision D-pad and it works just fine.
