Paul Westphal
My SIO to SD will not work on the 1200xl. Disk drives work. Is this the funky O.S. Messing with me?
+Stephen
My guess is that it is because of the "R63" issue. This is a current limiting resistor on the mainboard which needs removed and replaced with a 0-ohm resistor (piece of wire).
Paul Westphal
The unit lights up, but there is nothing on the LED readout.
tschak909
I concur, have you popped R63 out? -Thom

Paul Westphal
So, take the resistor out and put in a wire in its place? Or jump a wire over the resistor?
+bob1200xl
Looks cleaner to remove the resistor and add the wire. Better yet, install a 1 ohm resistor. Regardless, it all solves your problem. Bob
Mathy
Hello Bob Can you explain why a 1 Ohm resistor is better than a 0 Ohm resistor or a wire? Sincerely Mathy
gilsaluki
Go with the wire.
+bob1200xl
What you use is just a matter of how you think it looks. They all produce the same results. Bob
Mathy
Hello Bob Isn't a 1 Ohm resistor a little bit safer than a 0 Ohm resistor/wire, because it limits the current a little bit? Sincerely Mathy
+bob1200xl
Mathy: Not much safer, no. The current limiting effect of a 1 ohm resistor is minimal. If you could draw as much current as you wanted, it would matter more, but you would need a higher wattage resistor, and you can't draw that much current before the 7805 regulator cuts you off. bbking67
I think putting a resistor there is aesthetic mainly.
Kyle22
If you want it to look pretty, use one of those ceramic bead covered jumpers like the 1200XL has for ROM/EPROM selection. Otherwise, just use a shiny piece of copper wire. For those paranoid types, you could put a small fuse in there.
Paul Westphal
I think a piece of phone wire will suffice. It will pop right in and self-solder. Thanks guys.
flashjazzcat
If you want it to look pretty, use one of those ceramic bead covered jumpers like the 1200XL has for ROM/EPROM selection. I thought they were just 0 or 1 ohm resistors, as discussed?
Kyle22
I thought they were just 0 or 1 ohm resistors, as discussed? Probably just a different way of describing the same thing. I would consider a 1 ohm a resistor, and a zero ohm a jumper.
Paul Westphal
That was it. Thanks everybody. I wonder if all the 1200's have this issue. My was rev A.
flashjazzcat
I think they all left the factory with the resistor on the SIO jack.
ACML
That was it. Thanks everybody. I wonder if all the 1200's have this issue. My was rev A. Everyone I've ever seen has it. While we're asking 1200XL questions, I've always wondered why the chroma line was never corrected.
flashjazzcat
Nor on the 800XL...
