+Tarzilla
I was stuck at work watching paint dry (actually long running reports and queries) and could not remote control my machine at home due to a power outage there so I had the latest version of this at work and added a few things here and there over the course of the day. Noticed that the spawning of bonus items inside of waffles is still there, I think it is due to a waffle spawning after the checks are done for the bonus item spawn but I haven't dug too deep into it. Each time the bonus is completed the bonus comes out less frequent. It might be more fair if the bonus comes out in order and/or with no repeats but other play testers would be a better judge than me. I can barely complete the bonus once without cheating SGWPBonus.zip
+atari2600land
Time for a reboot. I found a way to get through every row of waffles: Have all of them on at once, except one. This made the game harder I think, so there is no speedup after 10 points in this version. But this version and the solution made the game SMALLER than it was before. So just a suggestion. Here it is. sgwp4.bin
+atari2600land
Sped up the waffles a little bit. I also made the jam do its original function. I do have a question. It says I'm using 47 16-bit variables, but only one variable I use has a # in front of it. Or am I missing something? sgwp4.bin sgwp4.bas
+DZ-Jay
Sped up the waffles a little bit. I also made the jam do its original function. I do have a question. It says I'm using 47 16-bit variables, but only one variable I use has a # in front of it. Or am I missing something? Those are probably the variables used internally by the language runtime. I think the stats message is misleading: it's not 47 16-bit variables, but 47 16-bit memory addresses have been allocated. Perhaps it should only count the total left for users? It reminds me of the C=64 saying in the manual that it had 64KB of RAM, then you boot it up and it announces on the headline that there's 38KB free -- without you doing absolutely nothing! +atari2600land
My bug there, please update to IntyBASIC v1.2.3, just uploaded Thanks, but now I'm wondering: If I use a second 16-bit variable, willt he program not work? +atari2600land
Changed the death tune a little to make it more accurate to the original tune. So, tell me your thoughts about the game in general. Is it enjoyable? By the way, I don't plan on entering this in the competition. I think it would be a tad bit unfair since I was working on this long before the competition was announced. It would be like entering GoSub into it. sgwp4.bin

It just has to comply with the rules: pure IntyBASIC with no Assembly, and compile correctly.
+atari2600land
I think I can, but I doubt it would be fair to the other contestants since GoSub has been in the works for well over a year, and the Waffle Project for some time now. I guess I was just saying that I seemed to be like one of the few who was using INTVBasic prior to the contest. Not that there's anything wrong with INTVBasic, it's a great tool and one of my favorite things (same with bB.)

It just has to comply with the rules: pure IntyBASIC with no Assembly, and compile correctly. As long as the game adheres to the main rules e.g. not released as a cart game before, no assembly apart from "asm ORG $xxxx" statements and builds with an identifiable version of IntyBASIC then you can enter it.

+Tarzilla
So is this game done, or do I need to work on it more? I don't think it is done. The uniform arrangement of the waffles now makes the game too easy. It was much more fun with the random chaos in previous versions. As DZJay says, only you can decide when you are done. Ask yourself some questions: Who are you making the game for? You? Others? Do you care what others think is fun? Do you want people to play your game more than once or twice? If so, what would make them want to? Look at games you like to play repeatedly: What do you like? Continues? Bonus levels? High Score screens? Configurable options? Skill levels in general like many of the first generation console had in general?

+atari2600land
in the wake of GoSub's release (no pun intended) I have decided to come back to this concept. Since I have a new computer, I decided to restart everything from scratch. All I have is the title screen so far. It has a groovy picture of a waffle on it and eerie music. I am wondering though if I can redefine the screen bitmaps since the title screen is using all 64 of them. I'd need to make the machine. I would like it color 8 (gray) instead of the color it was (color 1, blue) before. sgwp2016nov5.zip
+DZ-Jay
in the wake of GoSub's release (no pun intended) I have decided to come back to this concept. I am wondering though if I can redefine the screen bitmaps since the title screen is using all 64 of them. I'd need to make the machine. I would like it color 8 (gray) instead of the color it was (color 1, blue) before. I'm glad you are returning to this project. I thought it was very interesting and the game-play, albeit a bit simplistic and crude, had great potential. If I may offer a bit of feedback on the new title screen, I think it is a great graphic... of a cherry pie. It does not resemble a waffle in the least, which typically has a grid pattern on it and does not normally have a cherry filling in the grooves. I am also not fond of the title text being written in the native font, and abbreviated as "Gov't" -- it looks a bit careless, as if you knew you had to put the title somewhere, but couldn't fit it in (which I suspect is what actually happened). The music is indeed eerie and fits the theme perfectly. I can make a few suggestions: Keep the waffle a single solid colour, using a darker colour for the outline and grid pattern. Make the pattern an actual "square-grid," not "brick-like." Overlay the text on top of the waffle image (this may use more GRAM cards, but the count should reduce once you change the grid pattern). Instead of just a single gigantic waffle, draw a "stack" of waffles (with a pat of butter on top to reinforce the suggestion of a waffle), with a standing waffle on the side. You can get a little clever with the theme and put dark glasses on the standing waffle, or a "SECRET" label over it, or something like that.
