Intellivision outputs a jittery picture

Recommended Posts

Hi, Ever since I got my intellivision, the picture it outputs is jittery. I tried hooking it up to a VCR but that didn't fix it. I'm not sure if it's because of my intellivision or my HDTV. Anybody got a solution for this? :?

further details of jittery please. If you arent using a good shielded rf cable with a coax to rca adapter you can get all kinds of problems from bad quality to jittery. Could be a bad rf box in the intellivision. Could be your tv. Best things to try is another tv and another rf cable. (If you are just using an rca cable it is easily the problem as they arent shielded for rf.)

The picture slightly moves up and down. It's not too bad, But it does kinda annoy me.

Definitely try on another hd tv. It could definitely be the tv but need to rule it out. I use my odyssey 3000 on my cheap crosley retro led tv which is the only hd tv i have found to not make the picture jump when the ball (a rectangle really) hits a wall or paddle.

I've witnessed this throughout the years across various CRT tv's and Atari/Intellivision systems. Jittery up and down movement usually settles itself after the system's been on for a while. Currently have a Panasonic 20" that exhibits this problem with my Intellivision. Never saw jittery left/right movement though.

Leave it on for a while? I might try that.

Yeah, I always figured a component (likely a capacitor) just needed to have some electricity running through it for some time before it settled down. Has never been such a consistent problem that I've actually needed to replace anything. Yet.

There's also the reality that some games and systems exhibit strange behavior on HDTV's due to slight incompatibilities in the video signal. Can't recall any Intellivision games at the moment, but I know Battlezone for the 2600 is wonky and there's a fix for it in a modified ROM. Do a search here for more info on that sort of thing…

I turned my intellivision on and remembered that my intellivision has another weird picture problem. It's kinda hard to explain but I'll try my best.

Ok, so imagine two squares, one on the left side of the screen and the other square on the right. Then, imagine the square on the left moving towards the square on the right. Then, when both squares meet, a couple of seconds later, the screen flashes an image of the square on the left in the middle of moving towards the square on the right, that's the problem I'm having. And I don't know what's causing it.

Edit: I've had my Intellivision on for a while and the picture is still jittering.

Sorry for the necro-bump, but I thought I'd let everyone know that I got the Intellivision's picture stabilized by hooking it up to the VCR. (even though that didn't work last time.) And, with the magic of my TV's picture settings, got the picture looking good. Thanks to everybody who helped.

That's what I had to do myself, hooking it up to a VCR. It seems to be an RF modulator deficiency or something, and it doesn't happen on all units.
