How to set up BBS?

You gonna have a land line? or you want to make an internet BBS?

I don't know how to make an internet BBS, but an old time dial-up BBS I remember a bit.

BBS Express.

BBSA.ATR is the BBS program and supporting files.

BBSB.ATR has the documentation how to run it.

BBSC.ATR has some useful data files.

I guess you can make a dial-up BBS with just two 1050s or equivalent 130k floppy drives.

And a dial-up modem. You have to have a 850 R: interface or a MIO or Black Box

probably has R: port, and R: handler software to make the modem work. Also

a ICD PRC has R: port.

And you'd need an Atari COM: cable to go from modem to PRC. I forget how

many pins on the R: port, 9 or 15. I do know a PC COM cable won't work,

has the wrong pin use. I'm sure Best, and maybe Video 61 has what you need.

Oh, and PRC/850 R: handlers.

Wow...that's a lot. Maybe I should make an internet one. Anyone know how?

Quickest way, is to find something to run on a modern OS and access via internet / telnet.

I have not tried this one, but it looks interesting and might suit your requirements:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/viperbbs/

It's for Windows.

Edit: I have been looking it over and I don't see a server binary available, just the client Nevermind. ;)

This one, on the other hand, I remember. There are others, and yes...not easy, but fun and maybe worth the effort.

Same setup, only you use a Lantronix box connected to your router instead of a modem connected to your phone.

Lantronix UDS-10 will behave just like a Hayes type modem over a physical rs-232 cable if configured that way.

It accepts AT commands via terminal. I have mine connected to my Atari ST right now. I want to try it with my ICD P: R: connection and 8bit Atari next.

Handy little devices.
