M.U.L.E. is now available in cartridge form!!!

Recommended Posts

Nir Dary and myself have been working on a Mega-Cart for three months.

We have completed it with great success. Now, any "disk-only" game

can be put on cartridge up to 4 Meg!! Also, it will be very easy to make

a multicart or develop new 8-bit games up to 4 meg!

We have put M.U.L.E. on cartridge and have two prototypes that we need

to have tested by two M.U.L.E. experts! So, if you are M.U.L.E. expert,

post here on AtariAge why you are, and we will pick two people to send

these carts to FREE. Of course, you have to test them for us and give

us your feedback!

The ONLY criteria is you must be a member of the AtariAge

forum for at least 30 days!

Also, if you are interested in purchasing a production copy, which will

be available by the end of the month, let me know!! The cost will be

$34.95.

Thanks for your help!!

Mark

Well,

I would consider myself an 'Advanced' MULE player - I ahve access to an Atari 800/XL/XEGS/130XE to test with.

Ive won with all characters and my highest total with 1 player against the computer is over 120K (Ive seen some folks with 200K+)!

I know about the Wumpus and feel I could shake things out pretty well.

Thats my story and Im sticking with it :)

hehe too bad my best friend lives 800 miles away. We used to play that game all the time.. My friend would always pick the one alien who had the money handicap, just as a challenge. I just recentally dug out my old system box so I could get to some back-ups of my old bbs.

Is it just me or dos the SAP music archive version of M.U.L.E. sound waaaay off?

Does Atari800Win have network support? ;)  Distance is getting to be less of a problem these days.

Yes, there is a version of the emulator called Atari800Win Plus that has online support. The latest version, 3.1 (or wherever the dot goes) can be found here:

Now all we need is a GBA version of MULE to take on the road! That would just rock.

Anybody remember ever trying to play this thing with paddles?

oh the day. I think my friend and I were experimenting (it was mostly just the two of us). He was really into M.U.L.E. and Ultima IV, the more strategic titles.

Whereas another friend of mine who I used to spend time with earlier used to do alot of two player Zeppelin and Robotron (the twitch games). I would steer, he would fire. Anybody ever do this?

Carts upto 4 Meg - that's awesome....

Are you using the XEGS big cart bank switching system or some new and cunning design???

Do you plan many big cart releases?

Will all the parts to make your own carts be available to buy or will you offer a build a cart service for homebrew developers?

P.S. Have you gotten the rights from the original authors to the games you are converting??

P.S. Have you gotten the rights from the original authors to the games you are converting??

Wouldn't that be Dan "Dani" Bunten in the case of M.U.L.E.? And since "she" is no longer alive, who owns the rights to M.U.L.E - EA?

I wouldn't mind having a copy of Seven Cites of Gold in cartridge format, too...

I think (although I've not asked) that EA retain rights to all derivative works from MULE, Seven Cities too I imagine :)

I would assume Dani's estate (if one exists) probably has her rights to MULE in some form too, or maybe ownership is amongst the other members of Ozark Sofscape, as they styled themselves back in the day....

Wow! I think it is a great idea to put Mule on a cartridge. Mule is one of my favourite all time classics and it's lot of fun on a Atari 400/800 with 4 joystick ports. 2 of my 3 original disk versions have gone bad by now and the 3rd one won't last forever, too.

It would be awesome if you could do a PAL version as well (I am from Germany:).

Regarding the copyrights: I have tried to aquire the rights for Mule from EA several years ago (for a GB/GBA version and a budget PC game) but after 3 or more months they told me that they cannot figure out who owns the rights. Don't have the emails anymore:/ I don't know what the result would be if you are going to ask them that question, again. A re-release of Mule on a cartridge base with manual, box etc. would rock for sure.

Best,

Marc.

I can tell you EXACTLY who owns the rights to M.U.L.E., IBM Corporation.

They hired Electronic Arts to write it for them.  It was registered January

30, 1986.  The copyright registration number is TX-1-796-645.  :)

M.U.L.E. was released by Electronic Arts in 1983 on several platforms, in 1985 they converted it to the IBM PC Jr., according to rumours IBM bought the rights later.

M.U.L.E. was released in 1983, BUT the release date has NOTHING to do

with when the copyright is granted. If you filed for a copyright

TODAY, you would be lucky if the copyright office recorded it by the end

of 2004!!

In fact, Ozark Softscape who did the original programming NEVER even

filed for a copyright.
