How to remove marker from the game box?

I recently got a CIB game and someone's initials were written on the side of the box in blue marker.

I read nail polish remover could help, tried a little and it didn't work, seems to have smudged it a bit.

I guess it's difficult with cardboard.

 

Anyone else deal with this? Ideas?

If the box is glossy, you can try a drop of lighter fluid on tissue. If it's absorbed into the fibers it won't be easy without a forensics lab.

Cardboard is very difficult; even if its on a shiny surface, it may have permeated the material.

 

You might need to experiment with different fluids. Alcohol can often remove Sharpie, but Marks-a-lot brand is different and is harder to remove. Grease-pen or crayon can be removed with Goo Gone. Might be able to erase it with an abrasive like Brawny Easy Eraser or a pencil eraser.

 

Of course, any of these could VERY easily damage your box by tearing, cutting, or even just discoloration. I might just leave it alone.

Sometimes hair spray works on permanent marker.

I would try a magic eraser.

Ethyl Alcohol completely removes permanent marker.

...and tread gently and lightly. Only maneuver around the white space. I removed ball-point pen from the back of a ColecoVision Zaxxon box this way.
