Which hand do you use?

I use my right hand and thumb (i"m right handed) on the disk; and I use the first two fingers of my left hand to operate side buttons. I use to play with someone that would pinch the side buttons with their thumb.

 

The reason I'm asking is that the Intellivision offered equal opportunity for right and left handed players. Modern game controllers force you to use your left hand for direction and right hand for most action buttons. I always wondered if this gave an advantage to left handed players.

Anyway, I use my left hand for the Intellivision control pad, then the right hand/forefinger/thumb for the firing controls. I'm still relatively "new" to the Intellivision world (being an avid Atari 2600 game player as well), but I seem to be "handling" it just fine. Hmmmmm..

My staff and I have been working tirelessly on a solution to numb thumb, but I can't seem to put my finger on it. Maybe if I can get everyone to respond to my poll, we can work out a solution to deal with these hand cramps.

No, you're doing it right. That's how the Intellivision controller was designed to be used. Unfortunately, it was designed by martians.

I write left handed but my dominant hand is my right.. I'm an oddball. Just like any game pad, I controller the disk (direction) with my left thumb and cradle the controller with my right hand to hit the action buttons with thumb, index and/or middle finger. It all depends on the game too.. Where the numeric pad comes in to play or not.

I'm right handed, but bat left, play hockey left, and skateboard left (not that I do any of those things frequently now).

 

For the Intellivision controller... I cradle it in my left hand, using my left index and middle fingers to press the side buttons on the right side of the controller. When needed, my left thumb does the keypad presses and left side buttons. The right thumb is always used for the disc.

I used to skate regular stance.. i cruise around once in a blue moon, nothing too extreme anymore. Tearing an ACL sucks! BMX is a little more forgiving imo.

 

Anyways, forgot to mention having to switch up hands and fingers, mashing those action buttons after a while, everything cramps up. Even my disk thumb gets pretty tender after a long session of Kroz. I'm pretty used to the Inty controller and the woes that come with it at times, I've been playing since '99 or so.. just gotta roll with the punches.
