That wasn't even funny

I think for many that missed the NT Mini a redesigned plastic shell cheaper model would be great, but for me, I would still buy the $500 model even if there was a cheaper plastic nt mini. It's the Ultimate NES that will never be built again. I'm so glad I bought mine.

I cannot justify $500. I could easily justify a Super NT type price again. So if they do indeed redesign the Mini NT, price it near $200, I would be among the first to impulse buy without nary a thought.

I understand nt mini is expensive, but it’s so over engineered and so fully functional as a console that it’s even better then original NES. So with that said it’s worth the $500 asking price imho. The Super NT is a great machine but in no way does it hold a candle to the original nt or nt mini.

I believe 90% of your statements come from the aluminum block which has really not much to do with engineering per se .... my opinion obviously.

Gonna cost a bunch of money to design a new PCB with HDMI out only, designing a new case etc.

And there wont be a super big marked since many already brought the NT Mini. Two versions will take the others market. Not a good way to go.

My guess they will move on with a Mega Nt.

Maybe another runs on existing Nt:s.

Sadly there wont be a Mega CD ode, there is give or take another Mega Drive on those so there will be a lot of money for one if so.

Are people willing to pay 199USD for a Mega Nt. YES!

Another 199USD (possibly more) for a Mega CD ode.. nah.. The problem will be the same as sega had, you must own this to have that and so on...

My Answer: Build a Nt Neptune with a built in ode for 399USD! analogue/HDMI out BUT with a plastic case..

Just received my NT Mini today and all I can say is WOW! Was worth the wait. The only question I have is if anyone knows of a good controller with Turbo functions for the A & B buttons. I just wrongly assumed the Jailbreak firmware would have an option for such.

The only options I know of are the NES Max & NES Advantage. Hoping there is a wireless controller or wired controller that has the functionality built-in. I have the two original SNES turbo controllers that I use on my Super NT that are wonderful.

Congrats on the NT Mini. It's an amazing machine.

I just bought this controller, but it's very rare. I got it cheap. I read a few reviews saying it was good.

The 8bitdo retro receiver maps the right-thumb buttons of a bluetooth controller (theirs at the very least) comfortably to NES B and A, and the other two to turbo. It came with the original nt mini package, but you can get it individually.

If you have a favorite SNES gamepad with turbo functionality (I'd recommend the ASCII pad), Ralphnet makes adapters to use SNES controllers on a NES.

http://www.raphnet-tech.com/products/snes_to_nes_cable/index.php

I don't personally have this particular one, but the Ralphnet adapters I do own all have imperceptible input lag, are well built, and support every controller I try with them. So I'm confident this would get the job done for you. This particular one locks you into the Y & B buttons though, which many people including myself prefer on Nintendo's ABXY layout.

So if you want matched up button lettering, this doesn't appear to offer any configurable options to provide that (Many of their adapters do have multiple button mappings available to select from).

Nice one. I have a ASCII pad. I might have to get one. I prefer (Y) as B and (B) as A also. Cheers Atariboy

This. I feel like a quality fpga console is worth $200. At 2.5x the price (NT Mini), it's a lot harder to justify. This was the primary reason why I chose AVS over the Mini back in 2016. Of course this was long before the jailbreak announcement. AVS is still a good console though. Would I buy a redesigned NT Mini at sub-$200 prices? You bet I would... :D

the 8bitdo nes30 that came with the nt mini is pretty nice, I wish the receiver didn't constantly blink it's light though even when not in use lol

I can guarantee that adapter has zero lag. It's nothing but straight through wiring, it just converts the connector. NES and SNES use the same controller signaling, just a different connector. I made my own because I already had the connectors/cables. Here's the info if anybody wants to make their own http://www.raphnet.net/electronique/nes_mod/nes_mod_en.php#11

The SNES / NES adapter is just straight wired and does not add any lag. SNES controlelrs are pin compatible with NES protoc ol.

EDIT: what forsaken said. He posted while I was typing... :P

Is it possible that an 8bitdo firmware update removed this? I have the controller but no turbo on those buttons.

Atariboy, Forsaken & Stardust no matter what I am also going to get a couple of these adapters! That is awesome and why I love this forum.

Aw geez, that sucks. Mine worked right out of the box (long press on receiver + long press Start on NES style wireless).

You can experiment with firmwares here I suppose: http://download.8bitdo.com/Firmware/Receiver/nes+snes/

(For receiver; controller firmwares are in a different folder)

The first thing I did was update the nes30 and receiver. It still blinks though. I find using real nes wired controller works best. I need to get one of those adapters though. It's always nice to have options ;-)

Yeh, I would have paid just as much for an aluminum option Super Nt to match the mini I have.

I believe analogue has a "special" firmware as well which might be different from the 8bitdo firmware. https://support.analogue.co/hc/en-us/articles/115001657087-Using-the-Retro-Receiver-for-NES-with-the-Nt-mini

Got one of theese hudson controllers, very neat.

The compability arent 100% with the Fami port, due to how roms handle input.

Make a fami->nes converter and its a done deal. :)

I have two of these for my NES. The brand is different though... It is joycard and has an NES style plug (and an RCA jack to use headphones) nes_joycard_sansui_ctl.jpg

Analogue had a custom version of the 8bitdo firmware that removed the turbo button functionality. I never understood why they did this and their explanation didn't really make sense. IIRC, they wanted it to be more authentic to the original gaming experience. They told me that if I wanted the turbo buttons functional I could change to the regular 8bitdo firmware, but I never bothered because I found the controller's dpad too inaccurate to be usable.
