7800 games that use 2 buttons

So I just picked up an Edladdin "Seagull 78" adapter, that allows using a Sega Genesis controller (of which I have plenty) with the 7800. (For those of us who dislike the Pro-Controller it "liberates the games", so to speak.)

Is there an official list of which 7800 games actually multiple buttons? Of all the titles I own, it seems like a ton do not. (In fact, at least one game manual I looked at mentioned how to hold a joystick, with the fire button at the top left -- was two-button support something they added late in the development of the system!?)

In any case, here's what I've come up with my personal collection of games. Hopefully I'll go back and start playing them more now. (I've used my 7800 as a 2600 quite a bit, but the poor "Prosystem" games get neglected. :) )

Game Plys Controller Type

Ace of Aces 1 Joystick?
Asteroids 1-2 Joystick
Ballblazer 1-2 Joystick
Centipede 1-2 Joystick
Commando 1-2 Pro-Controller
Crack'ed 1 Joystick
Crossbow 1 Joystick or Lightgun
Dark Chambers 1-2 Pro-Controller
Dig-Dug 1-2 Joystick
Donkey Kong Junior 1-2 Joystick
Fatal Run 1 Pro-Controller
Galaga 1-2 Joystick
Hat Trick 1-2 Joystick
Ikari Warriors 1-2 Pro-Controller
Joust 1-2 Joystick
Karateka 1 Pro-Controller
Ms. Pac-Man 1-2 Joystick
Ninja Golf 1 Joystick
One-on-One Basketball 1-2 Pro-Controller
Pole Position II 1 Pro-Controller
Realsports Baseball 1-2 Pro-Controller
Robotron: 2084 1-2 Joystick (x1 or 2)
Scrapyard Dog 1 Pro-Controller
Super Huey 1 Pro-Controller
Winter Games 1-2 Joystick
Xevious 1-2 Joystick (Left Diff A) or Pro-Controller (Left Diff B)

Does that seem right? Anyone want to add to the list? (At least, we should have a "requires (or benefits from) Pro-Controller" list)

PS - Thanks to Trebor's Atari 7800 Difficulty Switches Guide

Edit: I pasted from a spreadsheet and saw a nice table in the editor, then when I submitted the post it was a single, mashed-together paragraph of text. :P

What about a list for homebrews and hacks?

How about a list that features original retail games, homebrews, and prototypes? ;)

The number of hacks out there is quite extensive. The vast majority of the time, a hack utilizes the same controls as the original game.

Nonetheless, hacks existing that utilize the Trak-Ball is worth mentioning.

A notation will be made to the next update of the aforementioned linked list indicating that hacks for proper Trak-Ball support exist. :)

Wasp uses only the left button on the 7800 controller. It should have been programmed to use the VCS controllers but only works with the left button on 7800 controllers. Fun little game though.

Thanks for the great list!  I keep the browser window open at all times on my phone.

I discovered today that Asteroids also falls into the 2-button optional category, in the sense that you can plug in a 1-button controller and you can use down on the joystick to activate hyperspace (!!!).  This does prevent usage of the deceleration thrusters, but some may consider decelerating in this manner to be non-essential.  This works with traditional 2600 style joysticks and Sega Master System joypads, but not Sega Genesis controllers (unless you have the Edladdin adapter, presumably).

I discovered a way to trick the Atari 7800 into using a Genesis gamepad in 1-button mode, even without an Edladdin Seagull 78 adapter.  First, plug in any standard 1-button controller that the 7800 recognizes.  Turn on the console.  The console will boot up in 1-button mode.  Unplug the controller, and then plug in your Genesis controller into the same port.  The Genesis controller will now function in 1-button mode.  This trick is only really useful for 2-button-optional games like Asteroids and Xevious that actually have a distinct 1-button mode.  This trick will also enable a Genesis controller with 1-button functionality on games that normally require 2 buttons, but it still will not activate the second button.  The Seagull 78 is the only way I know of to enable full 2-button functionality on a Genesis gamepad, but the adapter works very well and is worth picking up.  My console is a late period release, so I can't guarantee that earlier versions of the console will behave the same way.  Either way, it's worth a try, and every 7800 owner should have a Sega Genesis gamepad for the 1-button games anyway.
