I own an Atari 800 but I wanted one for the road so I figured a 130XE and I did go out and got one!!! But now im thinking of an 800XL!!!!

what better for the road a 130XE or a 800XL in-terms of size???

the 130XE is just as compact, the footprint is just a different shape; XE is narrower, but thicker (side to side/front to back) the 800XL is wider, but thinner. But, the 800XL is a bit sturdier which is good for travel and the cart port is on the top which also is better for setting it down anywhere, bed, carpet, etc.

You could consider getting a 600XL, do a memory upgrade and composite out upgrade to it, get one of Sijmen's MyIDE modules and install it internally with either a 2.5" hard drive or a compact flash adapter and a 128mb compact flash card and you'd be pretty much all set with a self contained system that was very small, the power supply would probably weigh more then the 600XL ;-)

Do you have a picture of that setup? That sounds NICE!

Also my vote would be for the 800XL. It's easier putting carts in & out versus the 130XE. Other than that, they're both quite comparable in size, although I think the 130XE might be a little more compatible with games. Either one seems like a good choice for traveling. Even the 600XL that Curt mentioned, or even a XEGS, minus the keyboard is almost as compact as the others, it depends on what all games you would be wanting to take with you to play I guess.

Also depending on where you are staying, you may or may not have a TV that accepts composite A/V in. Most older TVs don't. I had a 25" Magnavox from about 4 years ago, without them. Pissed me off, becuase when I bought my first DVD player I realized quite quickly that I had no way of using it once I hooked it up thru my VCR, and the Macro crap came on. Luckily I had found some little "black box" from a large lot of crap; power supplies, controllers, etc. on ebay, and it allowed me to bypass the macro. And also the XEGS also came factory with composite outputs, no modding neccessary. ;)
