StarshipUK
Is there any way to identify a real 4160 STE as opposed to a 520 STE or 1040 STE which has been re-badged with a 4160 label? Perhaps through software, another label or a chip inside the machine?
Junosix
Should say 4160 STE on the grey label on the bottom of the case?
exxosuk
This was talked about a few days ago. I think the jist was Atari may have had 4160's but were never actually on general sale, so unlikely to be any genuine ones about.

You watch, ebay will start having a flood of "rare 4160 STE development systems" now

You watch, ebay will start having a flood of "rare 4160 STE development systems" now I've got three! EDIT: I actually doubt there was ever a hardware-based developer's kit. The system was already open for anyone to program on. And I remember back around '91 getting documents from Atari when I expressed an interest in developing games. There was no mention of any hardware. Just documentation, manuals and software - plus a couple of NDAs to sign. tjlazer
It has been discussed in the past many times that this machine was never released. It was a regular STE that dealers added 4 MB SIMM's and slapping on of the badge. It was on a special order basis.
