Super SpartaDOS Cartridges Pre-order

Dropcheck

Recommended Posts

So is there any chance at this point of the PCB at a higher cost? I would really prefer that one since I have 2 bad R-Time8s and 1 bad SDX cart already. (I'd even pay more for it than the cased version really). If not, then I'll go ahead and order one of the cased ones.

Let me know. Thanks.

He should be over the 25 mark ofr the one with case. I bought 2 before RodLightning made his purchase.

As I understand it the pcb only version is missing the following switches, because of using the old case.
"One switch allows the SpartaDOS to be turned off and allow the external cart to function independently. The other switch resets the SpartaDOS so you can then do a warm reset on the Atari. Those are the only real differences. Aside from the housing."

Update:

We have made the miminum number of Super SpartaDOS cartridge orders necessary to green light the production. A total of 50 cartridges will be made. A little over half have been sold already.

We are still way short on the miminum number of Super SpartaDOS pcb orders necessary. As we are in the last day or so of the order window, I doubt we see the number change much. That's okay.

Right now the order amount is only 6, so I've decided to do a small production run of 10. As it stands right now the price should not change. Only 2 have been sold in the EC so I've decided to do the run myself rather than have Panos do it. I think I'll still have some hair left when I'm done. ;)

Over the next couple of days we'll be finalizing the money transfers, parts ordering etc. Itead, who will be the board manufacture, is shutting down 2 weeks for their Chinese Spring Festival towards the end of the month and their site is already stating a 4-5 day delay in orders. I hope to get the orders in before the delay gets any longer.

Understand you can continue to order the SuperSpartaDOS cartridge version upto the total # of 50 orders is reached.

The Super SpartaDOS pcb version will initially be limited to a max 20. What that means is that I will do the first 10 on a small production run. If any orders come in over the initial 10 then I will make a decision then as to whether I will do a second run. Likely if the extra number is 5 or more.

Dropcheck,

I just heard about this SSDX project. I've got several original SDX and RT8 carts, so re-using one of those would be doable. However, I'd rather design and print my own SDX replica case to house the SSDX PCB. You said earlier that, "Enterprising individuals who want to add the switches themselves will no doubt be able to do so." Am I correct to interpret this to mean there are contact points on the PCB version where I could wire in the two switches?

Hi

It will be possible, but due to space issues there are no contacts per sue. You will be soldering to 0805 sized SMD resistors and caps. We were barely able to route the pcb traces using that size. Additional space set aside for holes/contact points would not have allowed complete routing on a double layer pcb.

I am playing with the idea of trying a four layer pcb. That triples the cost of the pcb though. :(

Initial pcbs and parts have been ordered. Both Panos and I are waiting for them to arrive.

Hi everyone,

Thought I would weigh in with an update.

The Super SpartaDOS PCB and Cartridge project is still on track. Panos in Greece has begun to assembly the Super SpartaDOS Cartridges.

I am still waiting on the bare boards from ITead for the original SpartaDOS cartridge version. Unfortunately I got caught in the yearly shut down for their 2 week holiday. The files got in before the shutdown, but not completed. So hopefully when they start back up, I will be only the third or fourth on the backup list.

All in all figuring the shipment time from Panos to the US I would estimate a good four weeks before I get the ones bound for the US. EU customers should see theirs a little sooner. The original SpartaDOS cartridge pcbs should be ready to ship out then too.

Got mine in the mail last week!!!

Looks great. and it fits in my APE 1200XL !!!!

But it needs some initial setup and use docs. I am familiar with SpartaDos X, I'm a bit stuck on how to get this started...

Anyone have a link?

You should be able to find everything you need at the SpartaDOS X Upgrade Project.
