Omega-TI
Would something like this interest you? It appears there are more TI-99/4A users in the Pacific Northwest than one notices on a casual basis. Are YOU one of these Atari Age users? Do you live in Washington or Oregon within 50 miles of the I-5 corridor? If so, what do you think of a meeting sometime in April or possibly May? This thing could morph into anything at this point, it could be small, it could be large. It could be just to "talk TI" over lunch, or it could turn into a all-day thing with activities. It's all up to YOU... Replies, comments, questions? X
RXB
Yea how far do I have to drive and where? I have a slightly limited amount of distance I can drive and live in Vancouver, Washington. Where and when in May?

I have a slightly limited amount of distance I can drive and live in Vancouver, Washington. Where and when in May? Well, depending on replies over the next month or two and the majority of respondents addresses, the location is still 'fluid'. I do have one easy to access location from the freeway in mind though. Who knows, this could end up being a big bust if no one is interested. I would like to keep this as near to geographic center between Seattle & Portland as possible though. I already have a cake in mind... one with an edible photo. (I got the idea from another thread).
+jedimatt42
I'd be into a get together, large or small. And of course, rain or shine, the northwest way. I'm west of Portland, OR, and I enjoy a good drive on occasion. -M@

+swlovinist
I think that this would be cool to have a meetup, but dont know how long I could stay. The Northwest in general has a very large amount of gamers, and it is nice to see them happen. I recommend Pied Piper Pizza in Vancouver as a place that is a great place to have an event.

Greg You had a pretty good sized one this past year! I still need to pick up one of those games multi carts we were talking about. I had to fly out from Minnesota so maybe I'll try to get to Chicago this year since it's closer...
+Ksarul
I had a bunch of the Games cartridges with me at the Chicago Faire too. . .we try to make sure all of the new things are available at both venues (Chicago/Portland). I am definitely too far east for Portland though. . .

I have a couple of ideas in mind with meeting rooms, good food and within sight of the freeway. There are people from up north in Olympia, and I believe Tacoma and Seattle too that might not attend if they had to drive that far, so to be fair I'm trying to keep it in the center. We'll see what the interest levels are first.

Omega-TI
That's my home town. Interesting, if you still live there, we are only about 20-25 miles apart. You'll probably not have much of a commute to the meeting!
BJGuillot
I'd love to go to this if it happens. I live in Marysville, Washington (near Everett, about 30 miles north of Seattle). Potentially whoever is organizing this could try to tie it to one of the Seattle Retro-Computing monthly meetings that are held in Redmond (see http://www.seattleretrocomputing.com/meetings/) or potentially hold it at the Seattle Living Computer Museum (see http://www.livingcomputermuseum.org/) if they allow that kind of thing. The Living Computer Museum is really cool if you've never been (all kinds of home PC's available and ready to use, Apple, Amiga, C64, TI-99/4A, etc.) Though if you are trying to do something centrally located between Seattle and Portland, maybe having it at a hotel in Olympia, Washington could work.

When I get more of a handle on the numbers and locations I'll fix a location as well as the date & time. At this point I'm thinking of something like 9:30 - 3:30 with a break for lunch in-between. It starts late enough that people will not have to rush and ends early enough that they can get home in time for dinner. Six hours should be enough time... right?

You'll probably not have much of a commute to the meeting! Oh, no, I left nearly twenty-five years ago. Weyerhauser pulled out, WIDCO sold off the strip-mining operation to whatever holding company owned the Steam Plant, and the antique shops / WalMart invaded. That place has been on life support since the early nineties. I'm on the other side of the planet, in Japan. Not a place I would choose for a get-together, but I'm pretty sure the Eagles lodge would rent the hall for a night at a reasonable rate. Omega-TI
Right now I have my eye on a place that I've heard does not charge for it's use, it has large meeting room, WiFi and the restaurant is like 30 steps from the meeting room with a door that closes to keep out our noise. I think I even saw a flat screen TV in there, sink etc. I plan to go there sometime in the next week or two and ask a few questions and if things look good reserve it for a weekend in April or May. I believe the reason they don't charge is because they figure people will buy a meal while they are there. I like this place because it's about center and everything we would need is there and it's visible from the freeway. There is one drawback, if people wanted to bring "a ton of stuff to sell", it might NOT be a good idea as you'll have to walk through a gas station like store and the restaurant in the back to gain access. So if anyone had any ideas on selling an item or two, no problem, but if you wanted to unload a P-Box or something I would say... parking lot. If I settle on this place I'll make a dash cam video of how to get there from either the north or south and post it online.
RXB
Yea I would not be bringing stuff to sell and I do not have a laptop. But would like to come to the meeting.
Omega-TI
While I do not have the place fixed yet, I'm going to set the date for: Saturday, April 30th. This should give people enough time to plan or request the day off if they sometimes work weekends.
