ZillaRUSH
I am a neophyte when it comes to emulators...having a MAC I decided to download the OpenEmu....wow is this awesome! To download ROMS and have the games on the MAC is sweet! Im sure you all have had this for years on PC. A few questions: 1) How to you handle a .bin file (to convert it for the emulator)? I tried changing name to .rom and it did not transfer into the OpenEmu. Any scoops? 2) Anyone have any luck with actual game controllers plugged in via USB (on Mac) to play the games? I see there is an Intellivision controller...how about Atari or ColecoVision? Thanks all!
+DZ-Jay
For a moment, I was excited... until I learned that it requires Mac OS X 10.11 (I have 10.. Boo! To convert BIN files to ROM, you can use the "bin2rom" utility that comes with the jzIntv emulator. -dZ.

RayXambeR
Simply rename extension of a romfile to ".int" not bin or rom. Too, if you would like to play with a REAL intellivision controller with Openemu, buy an adapter from raphnet.net It works very well and the guy has several sort of adapters (not just for inty) in his catalog. I have tested Jaguar and some other controllers and all are fantastic! GUIintv is not very stable on mac but you can launch it and, then, force to quit and jzintv keeps opened. So you can play the game. And with an application like Joystick Mapper, you can associate keyboard controls with a real joypad. +thegoldenband
Are there versions available of OpenEmu that are compatible with earlier OS X releases (e.g. Mavericks)? It's incredibly irritating when it seems like every time I finally upgrade my OS, the programs I've wanted to use immediately jump out of reach once again. In fairness (a) it's usually Apple's fault and not the developers', since they take a cavalier if not actively hostile attitude toward maintaining compatibility with previous iterations of OS X, and (b) I'm always a couple versions behind since I can't risk maiming my work environment to move to an OS that has major bugs upon release (hi, El Capitan!). But still. In any event jzintv does what I need on the Intellivision front, but OpenEmu emulates other systems and, I'm hoping, does so without the serious bugs that plague many of Richard Bannister's OS X emulator ports. mr_me
Thanks all! CD-Jay...jzintv bin2rom is an .exe. file...no go. Here is the offical jzintv website with a mac version for download ( http://spatula-city.org/~im14u2c/intv/). ...GUIintv is not very stable on mac but you can launch it and, then, force to quit and jzintv keeps opened. So you can play the game. And with an application like Joystick Mapper, you can associate keyboard controls with a real joypad. A gui is not needed with Jzintv. Just use the "open with" function of the file browser to send a game file to jzintv. Edit: So the Bliss emulator does not recognise cfg files? I guess the memory maps can be placed in the knowncarts.cfg file as an alternative to converting a rom file. I'm using version 1.x and it is compatible with Mac OS X 10.8.5 (Mountain Lion), which is the one I have installed. However, even though I installed the Intellivision/Bliss core, it does not show up in the list of available libraries. -dZ.
+nanochess
It's usually a fault of developer. I've Mac OS X 10.9 and looking in right places you can download development libraries for Xcode starting in 10.
