hizzy
Hi, I just downloaded stella this week and I've fallen in love... I was wondering: Should I want to run Atari emulation on a Raspberry Pi, is Stella my best best? I LOVE the 2600, but I wouldn't mind trying out 5800 & 7800 games. Is Stella the best Atari emulator? Will it work well with the Pi? I am thinking of getting a nice case with for the Pi. I am thinking to use the Atari emulated Pi with the 2600-daptor. Would this work okay? Thanks! h
Keatah
Don't know enough about R-Pi to comment on that. But on the PC Stella is the best emulator by far. Why not just try it all out and see how it goes?
hizzy
Hi! I like Stella on my laptop, but I would like something a dedicated small machine that I could just plug into my TV via HDMI. Thanks
+DrVenkman
I heartily recommend an RPi-based emulation setup. To that end, you should look into downloading an image of RetroPie and copying it to your SD card. The current 2600 emulator included is Stella, version 4.2 (I think). Excellent support for classic and recent games. Paddle emulation is a bit spotty in some games - recent versions of Stella have tried to fix it but those haven't made it down to the RetroPie maintainers yet. Alternately, of course, you can simply compile the most recent version yourself but it will take a good long time if you do it on the Pi itself. Will retropie work with 2600-daptor usb adapter? Thanks!
scotty
It works with all the other USB-to-retro controller adapters I have like 4 Play, original Bliss Box, Stelladapter etc.... etc.... etc... so do not see a reason why it won't. Raspberry Pi emulation is amazing. I travel a lot, and spend a lot of time in hotels, and take it with me all the time.
firebug
I have a Rpi2 I'm using as an emulation console. I use Lakka for the OS instead of running RetroPie through Raspbian. I found it much easier to configure than RetroPie. At the moment I have it running emulators for the 2600, 7800, LYNX, Genesis, NES, SNES, GB/C, GBA, Virtual Boy, Vectrex, PC Engine, PS1, and PSP. All of which run at full speed or close enough to not bother me.
Inky
I just installed RetroPie on my RaspberryPi 3B last night. Except for a minor issue with sound, (I had to uncomment 2 lines in the config.txt file to get sound via HDMI to work) it installed fine. It works like a champ. Setting up the wifi makes dragging and dropping roms into it from a Windwos desktop PC a breeze.
