Fletch
Fired up the Falcon today on my LCD via VGA and noticed two horizontal lines slowly scrolling up the screen. Tried a different VGA cable, tried different power cables and even tried different power outlets but the result was the same. I then hooked the Falcon to both a SM124 and a SC1224 and the results were worse. Much noisier and the bands were wider. Anybody have any idea why this may be occurring? I'm guessing my PSU might be failing, but I don't know. The first image is VGA, second is SM12M and third is SC1224. Any suggestions? -Pete
Fletch
Um.... I really think my PSU is shot. I listened closely through the case and it sounds a bit like angry bees in the upper left of the case where the PSU is housed. I've unplugged everything and I guess I need to either source another one or get much better at soldering.
galax
I had an angry bee sound in my Falcon, and it was an inductor (looks like a fat resistor) that looked burned out. It's on the main board right under the power supply, I thought it was the PSU at first. I have photos somewhere.

Fletch
Took the PSU out and hooked it to power. Even without being connected to anything it was buzzing like crazy. One of the capacitors is swollen as well. I'm hoping no damage was done to the motherboard.
Fletch
Got a replacement PSU from Best yesterday. One of the capacitors had come loose in shipping. Soldered it back in place and installed the PSU. Fired up the Falcon and all is right with the world. Whenever I get the time, I plan on rebuilding the old PSU to have as a spare. Willsy
The old psu probably needs nothing more than new capacitors and you'll have a spare ready to go. Glad you got it back to match fitness. Those falcons are precious. I *so* wish I had one!
paul92706
ya these cap's dry out after time and no longer charge, they become big resistors (ESR) in circuit!
leech
And here I thought Angry Bee noises would be that you made our TOS Lords mad. They must be appeased by sacrificing an Amiga. Or something. I've been thinking of getting my PSU replaced / re-capped in my Falcon, but then I'm probably going to eventually be putting in a picoPSU when / if I get the CT60e. Good thing to know about the various sounds and how to fix them, and the Video being weird as the cause though. I have been wondering if the vertical lines I'm getting on both my 1040STe and TT030 are old power related.
