ColecoVision Facebook groups.

So I recently joined the two ColecoVision Facebook groups and I'm curious about a few things and I figured I'd ask here since it's more of a neautral ground than asking on one or the other page about the other one.

I'm wondering...

- Each of those pages have a few hundred members. Are they basically the same people on both pages? And are most members there also members here?

- Do both pages cover pretty much the same content or are they different at all from each other?

- If I had something to post, how do you choose which one to post to, or do you just post it to both?

- Is there really any content there that isn't covered here?

- If the answer to a lot of these questions are "yeah, it's pretty much the same..." Why does there need to be two groups?

Just curious, that's all...

I am a member of both groups and there seems to be a few of the same in each group, but many different people also.

I rather enjoy it and kinda just post random things in both. So far, nothing seems to be off limits as long as its related to Colecovision and not something otherwise against Facebook TOS.

Because anyone can make a page on Facebook about anything. I'm surprised there are only two. I guess now I'll have to go take a look, but I find AtariAge pretty much has all the info I'd ever need.

I think I meant more "why does there need to be two SIMILAR groups" being that they both have the same amount of people (a few hundred) and from what it seems so far similar people in each group.

I "get" that you can make a FB page about anything (I mean, I do social media professionally!) but was just more wondering if one group is more tech related, one is more collector related, or general discussion, etc. There actually seems to be around 10-15 FB ColecoVision groups, but most of them have no members or content. But these two seem to thrive. Just curious to know what the difference between them was, if any. That's all.

Agreed. Another reason for my questions.

I get what you meant, but what I meant is that CVFAN #1 makes a Facebook page that draws hundreds of people. CVFAN #2 sees that page and thinks what a wonderful idea it is to have a CV page, but then does he think to himself "Oh, too bad...there is already a page so I can't start one." Or does he start one anyway? Or perhaps he never even saw the page and just started the other one on his own.

God knows I've started a lot of web pages thinking what great, original ideas they were only to find out as I eventually searched around that there were dozens of other pages just like them.

There must be something special about both of them or they wouldn't have hundreds of members, while others only have limited membership. Those were probably enthusiastically started by people who finally decided they were too much work to keep up and they died off or never even got going. Some of my web pages have been like that too!!!

I gotta go look now. I'm curious to see these pages.

EDIT: I went searching for ColecoVision on Facebook...what a mess...I think everything with ColecoVision even mentioned briefly came up.

EDIT 2: Re-reading what I just wrote, I still really haven't addressed your questions. But we'd need to see the pages to do that. Do you have links? When I search for Coleco or ColecoVision, 99% of what comes up is Coleco Chameleon related.

Yeah, here's the two:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/colecoretrogamers/?ref=browser

https://www.facebook.com/groups/1581101688816092/?ref=browser

I did a bit more digging around. Looks like the first one was created a bit over a year ago and the second one was created a few months ago. The second one advertised their page on the first one to gain members (which IMO seems like kind of a shitty thing to do, but whatever...)

Both seem to have totally different content, almost no cross-over at all (in fact the two videos I posted to both might be the only cross-over content I've seen! Oops!) and the 2nd group, even though it is newer and has fewer members, seems to be more active. Very strange, but also interesting.

I think I'll keep following both just to see what pops up....

I have now joined both...the ColecoVision Lunatics is quite well done and a lot of names I don't recognize so perhaps it will be different from what is posted here on AtariAge....looks like lots of good content. The other one is a closed group so my membership is pending. Hopefully it'll be a good one too.

Thanks for the links to these sites.

Yeah, here's the two:
