Shawn
Hey, Before I start messing around, is the 7800 RF box compatible with the 2600 RF box? I know there is a 4 headers on the 7800 RF and 5 on the 2600 RF. I'm looking for the pinouts for both. Shawn
SwampFox56
Forget the 7800 RF Box. I have, literally, boxes full of RF "shit-tins" that I've removed from probably 50+ systems. I'd be happy to send you one for free. What model Atari do you have?
Shawn
While that is kind of you, it would cost like $7 USD to send it to Canada. I'm messing with a 4 switch fwiw.

I keep a plastic tub full of them as... a memento. Anyways, if you want to give me your address - I'll send you... like 5 or 6 of them (since I don't know if they work). Do you happen to have the pinouts for the headers for both the 4 switch and\or 7800 rf?
Shawn
I've just got some rf interference on this 2600 and I'm checking to see if it's a bad RF box. I did a simple composite mod to it but the signal was too weak to get a viable image so I'm putting it back to rf sadly.

A 2.2K resistor wired from base to collector, and a 3.3K resistor wired from base to ground? That simply mod is a surprising good improvement over RF. Can you possibly show your circuit? I've done 20+ Atari A/V mods - and turned every revision of the 2600 inside-out at one time or another. So I can help you narrow the problem Edited April 22, 2016 by SwampFox56

I've used this mod for many 7800's with fantastic results. Not so much with this 2600 using the same parts. page 10 of this pdf is what I was following: http://www.coolretroprojects.com/Atari_2600_AV_Mod_Installation_Guide.pdf

Otherwise, yes. I've also gotten terrible video with that attached. I've always gotten rid of R207 as well. Have you removed those?

Anyways, I'd recheck your circuit. In many cases when I've been getting a poor Composite signal from a 2600, it's usually due to cold solder-joint, or something along those lines. I think I'm just gonna put one of the more complex mods in from electronic similarities.
Shawn
I got it figured out. With the 7800 RF box you just have to skip the second pin on the 2600 board as that pin is video out and the video out from the 7800 rf box goes to the jack not the pcb. Ground, 5v and channel select are all the same. Edited May 4, 2016 by Shawn
