help! intelivision a/v upgrade problem

Recommended Posts

first let me start by saying anything that needs doing will have to be done by someone else as i'm unable to even disassemble a system without assistance so to me nothing is "simple"

here is my problem, i recently had my intellivision a/v modded by a company and now i have it back i'm having some display problems.

about half the carts i've tried work fine (or seem to) but on the other half the top 1/3 of the screen is "torn" and discoloured.

shows what the problem looks like.

i should say this is a pal system and pal carts on a tv that can handle both pal and ntsc without issues and that this is the only system i've ever had any issue with like this.

is there a solution? is it just a problem with the mod?

any help greatly appreciated.

i am unfamiliar with pal but on an ntsc system there is a channel switch on the bottom. can you flip the switch and set the tv to the other channel? I would try that first. Or maybe the tv and the system already are on two different channels and they need to be set to the same channel Edited by pimpmaul69

I only have two PAL systems - one targeted to Australia, and the other to U.K. Both are different when it comes to channel selection features. The Australian unit has a channel selector, and the U.K. unit does not - instead it uses UHF channel 35, IIRC. I'd have to look at the Aussie unit to see which two channels it offers.

So I guess part of the trouble-shooting process still has to be: which kind of PAL unit do you have?

Aside from asking more questions, though, I'm sorry to be unable to offer any technical assistance. Surely, though, with more info one of our more electronics-tech-savvy members will be able to offer up help / suggestions.

my next thought if that doesnt work is adjusting the adjustable "color" capacitor (i forget what its really called) If it is slightly off it can possibly cause this. On rf it can do it in black and white.

it's a uk pal machine, has no channel select switch and now has no rf out as this is composite modded, it used to be fine on rf.

hmm. Not sure how he modded it, cause some require the rf stays in. Ias far as adjusting the capacitor i will try to take a pic of where you need to adjust while the system is on. You have access to it after you remove the top case. You dont have to remove the board or metal casing. There is a hole in the casing giving you access.
