walter_J64bit
It's been some time since I've used DOS XE I know it's easier using 2 disk drives with 2.x access, check this out. http://atariage.com/forums/topic/107116-allow-dos-2x-access/?hl=%2Bdos+%2Bxe&do=findComment&comment=1298213 Edited June 2, 2016 by walter_J64bit

I don't recommend DOSXE. Here's what I did to get a directory from a DOS 2.0/2.5 disk in drive 2. goto 'SYSTEM FUNCTION' menu, like you say (A choice). Then, like you say, do A.Allow DOS 2.x access. Then to get the directory of a DOS 2.x disk in drive 2: hit 'F' Then give A2:*.* for the drive specification and 'S:' for the destination. Don't omit the colon after A2. or S: the asterisk is a wild card. You could do A2:A*.* for all A named files. Also, don't do the single quotes for the S: If you only have one drive and stick a DOS 2.x disk in drive one, then the filespec would be A:*.* You can stop scrolling of the directory list with a CNTRL 1 Edited June 2, 2016 by russg
Wally1
thanks Russ! I got it to work! you have to erase the extra ":" that DOS XE prints in the prompt, specifically for F iles listing. then type A:*.* and you cannot change the W orking directory to A:, either thanks a multi-million, guys! walter_J64bit
thanks Walter but i have only one disk drive still cant get it to work any ideas (i tried the A2:*.*) that the thread said i tried A:, A1: no go You can't use any wildcards with DOS 2.x access, you have use the full file name when copying files. When trying to get the directory of DOS 2.XX you need to be on the system function menu screen. When you see the prompt "list what files? :*.*" you have to change :*.* to A:*.* then hit return then you should see "List to where?" just hit return then you should get the directory of your DOS 2.xx disk. Wally1
yeah Walter youre right thats what I meant, change ":*.*" to "A:*.*" and you have to copy a file one at a time. okay
walter_J64bit
Oh, my bad it didn't see you got it working. Oh one more thing if you pack your files that does help when moving files from 2.xx to DOSXE. If a file needs a Translater it's not going to work, DOSXE just lockups but there is a work around you'll need your XL/XE OS patched with the OS B fix.
