Hello Everyone,

Over the years I've collected quite a few Tetris versions and variations for the Atari 8-bit computers that I want to share with you.  I welcome your comments and please let me know if there are other versions that I may still be missing.  Thanks.

Great!  I'll add it to my collection.  Strangely, are the objects supposed to be so microscopic?

I'll send out an updated .zip file of the collection once I get more responses.  I also noticed that there is a large .pdf file of the Turbo Basic Manual that I'll take out to reduce the size of the .zip file.  Thanks.

Well,

there are quite some Tetris versions missing in your collection... e.g.  Super Puzzler, Lunacy and many others.

Try this: http://www.atarimani...enre=64&step=25

or this: http://a8.fandal.cz/...butt_details_x=

and many other games that do not even have "Tetris" in the filename or title (but are still Tetris clones).

Some of the bootdisk Tetris versions do also exist as single / stand-alone fileversions, look here:

http://www.mushca.co...atari/index.php

e.g. Super Puzzler, Warsaw Tetris and others.

Afaik, IBM Tetris (original version) had a bug, it crashed when you pressed Start too often (you could press Start to start the game, but in the game you could also press Start to return to the title; think thats why Fandal patched the game and you have to start his version with Select+Option).

Fortress has a nice title picture with a small animation - moving clouds. Alas, when the clouds appear at a certain point and you press Start or Fire to load the game, it simply crashes and shows garbage (maybe a DL / DLI problem?)...

Lunacy can play Pokey Player (*.V) sounds during gameplay. Some of these sounds play in an endless loop, but some do not. Afair, the sounds that play in an endless loop play alright (but get on your nerves sooner or later), but the sounds that do not play in an endless loop do not simply stop after a while, instead they stop with an endless tone/noise (similar to sounds in Basic, when you press the Break key). If I remember correctly there is also no option to play the game without sound and no key to turn the sound off during play...

I always prefer Tetris clones with the original tiles, alas, there are quite many A8 versions that have different tiles (e.g. formed like a + or like an U, etc.).

Thanks for the feedback.  I'll take a look at your suggestions.

You mentioned Fandal.  I don't recall seeing any recent postings from him.  Is he still around in the Atari community?

Yes, looks like Fandal is not very active at AA anymore, but he is still around in the Atari community, e.g. every year in April the Flop magazine arrives and it always includes a lot of programs or program patches (e.g. for Multijoy) from him. He also updates his webpage every month with new A8 programs (some of them written by himself) and he contributes to several A8 meetings/conventions/parties (like Forever, Atariada, etc.). Last not least, we talk/write via E-Mail every 2-4 weeks...

Look here: http://a8.fandal.cz/stuff.php

for some fixes: http://a8.fandal.cz/...utt_details_x=x

He also made lots of XE-carts available as XEX fileversions and he was the one who bought Xenophobe, so that it is available on cart at Video61 and many many other things...

I got it guys!  Since your program made me feel older now, can you please release a version that can make me feel younger again?  :)

There has been some controversial issues here at AA over the years and I hope that's not the reason why Fandal is not active here anymore.  He is very talented and is a big contributor to the Atari community.  I surely appreciate him.  Next time you communicate with him, please mention that we missed him here at AA and would love to hear from him again.  Thanks.

Agreed!

And sometimes it still feels as new as it were just yesterday.  Oh, take me back to the days when the Pac-man arcade ate all of my quarters!  :)

I did a remix of "The Wall" (written by Itay Chamiel) which changes the graphics mode into the ICE-CIN low-res mode (40x24 characters, 60 colors at 160x192 pixels) ... it mixes Graphics 12 with Graphics 11 and improves the look of the game.

Does your remix of "the wall" work in Altirra? I tried it, and when I press Start, all I get is a screen full of random characters.

It should!  It works on mine.  Make sure your emulation settings are right, and that you are using Altirra > 2.0 ... some Atari emulators have trouble with the GTIA settings in Antic 4/5, particularly Atari800Win.  The latest versions of Altirra and Atari++ will work flawlessly.  For best results, also enable frame-blending.  Also make sure you haven't got BASIC active either, that can likely mess with things.

Also, thanks for including my own Tetricize game, that I wrote in 1991 or so, right about the time the Iron Curtain came down around the old Soviet Union, as I remember!

Re-posted to the correct post.

Good to hear from you again!  I use the Video "Frame Blending" on Altirra to get rid of the screen flickering which was driving me crazy.  After that, the game plays quite well.  Thanks for letting me know about this Tetris version.  I added to my library.

Yeah I have been busy with other projects (non-Atari) and real life ... but I haven't forgotten Atari things by any means!
