KABOOMER!
Hi guys! You can play your cartridge Omega Race today, with a Joystick Standard, the only thing you need is a small piece of wire, cutter and tweezers. You only have to cut a small piece of wire 1.5 cm long, peel the ends to wrap the females (2 and 5) Player 1 as shown in the photo, using tweezers, place the cable into the pins 2 and 5 the input port of the player 1(!The stripped ends must not touch any other pin!), immediately connected the Joystick Std and with this bridge the firing of the ship is enabled. Now the control responds; Shot button - DriveLeft movement - turn opposite clockwise Right movement - turn clockwiseMove Up - shot Move down - disabled if you are curious, open the Joystick and change te buttons of response like Asteroids game. You can change the cables or shunt with a little patience motion controllers as you prefer. enjoy your new Booster Grip and comments!
Crimefighter
Why couldn't CBS configure the game without the booster grip since these were the only controls needed??
toiletunes
The booster grip was probably a sales gimmick- make the game stand out and look more interesting on a shelf crowded full of regular games.
fiddlepaddle
Interesting idea. You could also modify a joystick instead (that would thereafter be dedicated to Omega Race), so you don't have to mod your console.
KABOOMER!
Why couldn't CBS configure the game without the booster grip since these were the only controls needed?? maybe for reasons of marketing, since when reviewing the control pin connection to the console, the trick Booster Grip was just enable pin number 5, it is inactive for a standard control. RickR
Good idea (a customized controller). But I wonder if there's a hack available to fix the game itself?

KABOOMER!
Good idea (a customized controller). But I wonder if there's a hack available to fix the game itself? I do not think so, because the cartridge operates only with the Booster Grip, so it was necessary to connect the Joystick standard input cord female Booster and then connect the cable Booster and coupled to the console
alex_79
As a matter of fact, yes! http://atariage.com/forums/topic/158430-rom-hacks-to-support-2-buttons-with-genesis-controllers/ There's also this hack by Thomas Jentzsch that works with standard joystick and also allows the use of a driving controller for steering and fire (you still need a joystick in the other port for thrust. Of course you need a prgrammable cart (harmony, Cuttle Cart) or a custom cart made to run the hacked rom. http://atariage.com/hack_page.php?SystemID=2600&SoftwareHackID=83 If you have some soldering skills you can build one of these pass-through adapters that allow the use of a standard joystick with an original cartridge: http://www94.pair.com/jsoper/2600_omega_adap.html https://sites.google.com/site/halfbaker2/2600omegaraceadapter
