Booster Grip you can game now Omega Race with a Joystick Std.

Hi guys! You can play your cartridge Omega Race today, with a Joystick Standard, the only thing you need is a small piece of wire, cutter and tweezers.You only have to cut a small piece of wire 1.5 cm long, peel the ends to wrap the females (2 and 5) Player 1 as shown in the photo, using tweezers, place the cable into the pins 2 and 5 the input port of the player 1(!The stripped ends must not touch any other pin!), immediately connected the Joystick Std and with this bridge the firing of the ship is enabled.

 

Now the control responds;

 

Shot button - Drive
Left movement - turn opposite clockwise

Right movement - turn clockwise
Move Up - shot

​Move down - disabled

​if you are curious, open the Joystick and change te buttons of response like Asteroids game. You can change the cables or shunt with a little patience motion controllers as you prefer.

Why couldn't CBS configure the game without the booster grip since these were the only controls needed??

The booster grip was probably a sales gimmick- make the game stand out and look more interesting on a shelf crowded full of regular games.

Interesting idea. You could also modify a joystick instead (that would thereafter be dedicated to Omega Race), so you don't have to mod your console.

yes! one control would only specially modified for Omega Race, for those we have difficulty getting a Booster Grip, not to do anything at all to the console, you just place the small jumper wire, or ingeniously modify the Control for enable the pin number 5 on the console.

I do not think so, because the cartridge operates only with the Booster Grip, so it was necessary to connect the Joystick standard input cord female Booster and then connect the cable Booster and coupled to the console

There's also this hack by Thomas Jentzsch that works with standard joystick and also allows the use of a driving controller for steering and fire (you still need a joystick in the other port for thrust. Of course you need a prgrammable cart (harmony, Cuttle Cart) or a custom cart made to run the hacked rom.
