Opry99er
Stumbled across what appears to be a good deal (to me). Seller wants $100, but is potentially willing to trade for my GoPro Hero 2 (original packaging, etc). Missing a number key (6, I think) but appears to be a working and complete system. Probably won't run OS9, but maybe OS8? It is an hour and 20 minutes for me to drive, but I may just do it, if she will trade. What ya think? rpiguy9907
I'd do it! Make sure it works though :-)
JamesD
33MHz 68040... not bad. I believe the first Power Macs came out around that time so you probably won't find a newer 68K based Mac.
Osgeld
yea that's a pretty good 68K mac, and has lots of lewt with it, I would say go for it here's the sheet on it http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/mac_performa/specs/mac_performa_638cd.html few things stick out, max os is 8.1 max ram is 36 (8 on board 32 meg stick) hard drive is IDE, thank god SCSI is a pain LC PDS Slot, check but you might be able to run an apple IIe card in there and do a twofer like I do Edited August 25, 2016 by Osgeld
Opry99er
Sweet, thanks. Hope we can make the swap.
7800fan
Sweet model! IMO Quadra 800 and 840 are the best of 68k Macs. They can have up to 14 drives without needing extra board (although fiddy SCSI with termination, proper cabling, etc but I am used to it) My 800 also has a 486 DOS card by Orange Micro in Nubus slot and a PPC 601 in PDS slot so it is effectively 3-in-1 computer.
7800fan
addendum: if it hasn't been opened in a while, open it and remove the original battery. It's probably dead anyway and will leak badly if it's allowed to stay in too long. If you have never heard of any '040 power on chime, it can be nice and loud. Although it'd default to lower volume if it has dead battery and cleared PRAM (Mac version of CMOS)
Opry99er
She doesn't want the trade deal. Looks like I need to sell a GoPro.
The Usotsuki
I have one of those, and run 7.6 on it (though it's not very useful until I can get it online). It's got a 68LC040, so maybe 8.1 if you're lucky.
