Getting Roms to Work on Coleco Adam

Sorry if this has been posted somewhere..I did a search within this forum for ROM information and couldnt find much on this topic...if there is a thread (as I am a terrible searcher) could you point me to it?

What is the trick to getting ROM's to play on a Coleco Adam Computer? I want to run some diagnostics on it once I get it up and running / cleaned.

Thanks ahead of time!

I thought I read somewhere you could get the Adam to read rom files via an emulator or something? The same way you can attach other systems to a PC or something like that and have it read rom files....

Looking for way to take rom files for the adam and play them on the physical adam....or is this not possible?

The easiest method is to buy one of the AtariMax MultiCarts and then copy all your rom files onto it. If you decide to go this route, buy the Atarimax Ultimate SD Cart.

The more involved method is to use the Adam software program CopyCart. With this program you can dump physical carts to a rom file on the Adam and then play them using the control menu program that CopyCart creates when you create a CopyCart data pack or disk. You can also just format/init a data pack or disk in CopyCart and then copy the rom files onto the storage media to make your own custom compilation of roms.

Search this forum using " CopyCart ", " Dcopy " and " The Adam Connection " to find numerous threads where I posted step by step instructions on how to do all of this.

Also, visit Joe B's SacNews Adam website for tons of Adam info and software that we have archived over the years in PDF format as well as a huge Adam software downloadable packaged that I assembled over the years. The link is in the footer of my posts.

Thanks a ton for all that...will be checking it out right away!

Looks like I need an Adam Floppy drive for that process...dont have one....

I am basically trying to run the diagnostics software on the Adam to see if everything checks out....test it out, make sure things look good before trying to run Data Packs or other software on it...

If your system starts up in smart writer and the encoder wheel is not ruined in the data drive - put the tape in and test it. The way I test unknown systems is :

Plug in

Turn on

Test few keys to see if printer works

Switch to word processor and test all keys

Put in CPM tape and attempt boot

If boot make a copy of file on tape

Remove tape

Insert cartridge

Reset and test Game controller

If all passes I disassemble clean and do a lot more testing such as doing, dual tape, video out, channel 3&4 out, memory tests etc

I am thinking of buying an atarimax sd cart. It says pre orders now shipping..

So if I pay them will it be sent right away? Worried about the term pre order as I do not and will not ever give money upfront for anything not made yet and ready to go.

Just asking if anyone else bought one and had it within a week or two?

These have been out for years he just hasn't updated the site. If you order it, then it usually comes in a week.
