Atari 5200 Power Mod Question....Black Screen

I just got a 4-port 5200, tested it and worked, then the next day system just gave a black screen. I put together a quick DIY switch box and still nothing. So now the power mod, put that together, still black screen.

So my question - does this sound like a dead GTIA chip? So strange it was running fine the other night, then nothing the next day.

Let me know if anyone has any ideas on this

Thanks guys

Sounds more like the little IC near the power switch. It splits the power for the video and logic circuits. Perhaps the video is getting power, but not the logic side.

Thanks for the reply :-) I was just thinking about this a few hours ago and was wondering if it might be that IC too. I read a couple more threads about this and replacing it solved it.

I'm wondering if that IC is in any other systems I can pull from a parts board?

I could be wrong...but check the mainboard of a CV. I believe there is a flip flop on it as well. Though while I have a few dead CV boards laying around for parts because the CV is a pain in the arse to repair...not everyone likely does.

Haha. I've two CV boards here too in my parts bin. I'll double check thanks :) I'm also wondering if there is a particular point on the board I can pump 5V into it, bypassing that flip flop, to identify if it is the 4013 thats dead or possibly the GTIA?
