SuperCambot
So my X'Eye has been slowly degrading in reliability to the point where games either no longer load or I get immediate read errors. I have replaced the laser (which works, thankfully) but I get the same issues as before. My next step is to replace the electrolytic capacitors. Question - the cartridge side of the X'Eye works fine. The CD side is where I have issues. Do I need to replace the caps on both circuit boards? The two boards are linked via flexible connection harnesses. Would it be wise to just replace them all while I have it open? Perhaps leave well enough alone if the Genesis side still works and I get good results recapping the CD side? Thanks for any input. 7800fan
Might as well replace em all. If one side is starting to fail, the rest may follow soon so better replace them before they leak and make you spend an extra 2-3 hours scrubbing leaked cap gut and repairing eroded traces. Osgeld
Yea get them while your in there one side has failed the other is not far behind (maybe the CD side runs slightly warmer)
SuperCambot
Well, after much soldering and some tweaking, I'm happy to report that my X'Eye is now loading games with no problem. Still the best $9.00 I ever spent at a thrift store.
