First Spear
I am trying to understand which games in the VCS catalog that are *not* unique. VCS Games with gameplay that mimic the play of other games that came before it. Even rip-offs. Can anyone help me get a clue? Thanks. fiddlepaddle
I'd say virtually all games started with the seed from another game... Many were inspired by various arcade games, other by board games, professional sports, or child hood games. I'd say very few were completely original. Your question is interesting, but so wide open, I'm not sure how to really address it.
First Spear
I guess if there is "Space Invaders", did someone make a clone like "Star Invaders" ?
toiletunes
Well, there's Galaxian, Phoenix, Demon Attack, Pigs In Space, and Gorf- to name a few. It depends where you draw the line, but if you're controlling a thing on the bottom and shooting at a bunch of things on top, there's plenty of games to fit this description. +KaeruYojimbo
Do you mean along the lines of what was going on with computers, where you'd have a game that was functionally identical to a big name game but called something else and not actually an official port? I can't really think of any examples of that, but there are plenty of games based on the same concepts. Star Raiders/Starmaster/Phaser Patrol come to mind.
