Omega-TI
I just bumped into << this >> on the Internet at WHTech. Does anyone here have one? If so, what do you think of it? I can just imagine this & Stuart's browser (if updated) doing some amazing stuff.
+Ksarul
I believe that the entire stock of those was sold to CompetitionComputers, along with the rights to make more, back around 2010. I'm pretty sure Kyle still has some if anyone wants to buy one from him.
+InsaneMultitasker
I have one. Very simple device, required you to output the sound separately from the TI sound output. The Sound FX program Barry wrote was a "better" software-based option for playing the same sound files, though there was a minor sound quality trade-off. Omega-TI
I'd like to learn more about this device, possibly even see a schematic or get my hands on one. The idea of being able to play a .wav file on the TI is interesting. I'm not sure how often I'd use a device like this, but the price looks right. I'm wondering if it was ahead of it's time or just too late to catch on? Ether way, this thing looks like it could have some potential so I'd like to learn more. ... thinking out loud... There are a lot of really CHEAP amplifiers << HERE >> a person could use... Chris' USB power port project would work in the P-Box too, or one of a 1/2 dozen converters I already have... I know I have a pair of old PC amplified speakers laying around too... I suppose I could 'update' the finish to match the TI's black & silver styling like I did with the trackball.... Use decal sheets to put a TI logo on them when I'm done... Hmmm.... I may have found my next project.... How do I get a hold of this guy to order one? +arcadeshopper
Here's an album of what I have what I paid and the manual pages.. https://goo.gl/photos/V7NkDvESQj6CrgQT9 It plays RAW/PCM VOC files not WAV files, WAV's are compressed and the TI has no ram or free cycles to do that work and play a sound.. WAV's are easy converted to PCM though. Greg Edited October 1, 2016 by arcadeshopper
Omega-TI
Here's Kyle's userID on eBay: kyleti994a Thanks Jim, I sent him a message, hopefully he gets back to me. In the mean time I'm going to have to find the software and some 'ready to use' sound files just in case.

Thanks Greg! VOC format eh? Wow, I've not seen that format since the early 90's!
Omega-TI
It also occurs to me that many of us have already replaced out OEM fans in our P-Box's, so those unused 110V leads could be used for one of these... Then add a small jumper/extension to route it out of the box.
Tursi
Most WAV files are NOT compressed, but these days format conversion is trivial enough on the PC anyway. In the picture it looks like they painted over the IC to hide what it was, but there were a lot of parallel port audio solutions for various things, so it's a safe bet that it just converts the parallel output from digital to analog. (A lot of solutions just used a resistor array - here's a simple one that will work on any 8-bit port: https://www.ikalogic.com/8-bit-digital-to-analog-converter-dac/
Omega-TI
Back in the 90's I used to use an A/D converter on my PC's serial port hooked up to radio to decoded Wefax images. Sadly, the Internet erased some of the fun in things because damn near everything is available instantaneously.
Omega-TI
Here's Kyle's userID on eBay: kyleti994a Jim, I got a message back from him. He said he need to dig the stuff out then he'll get back to me. So, I guess I'm half-way there. When it comes, it's going to be a pain getting the software over to my system though. Omega-TI
Why is that? I can send you the image Greg Thanks Greg, I'd REALLY appreciate that. From the photos posted, it looks like it comes on a 51/4 diskette. I really don't want to have to pull out and hookup the backup P-Box plug in the 31/2 just to transfer one single disk. Ugh!
