jhd
Are you building this? The base of a standard 2600 stick is probably not large enough space for all of the switches, associated electronics, etc. -- you will need something closer in form factor to the wireless joysticks. Where will the Start and Select buttons be mounted?

+Stephen Moss
If you are talking about using a 2600 controller as a PS2 controller I am not sure why you would want to include all the standard buttons for a PS2 controller, as most PS2 games use an analogue input and you would only get digital outputs from the controller you are suggesting it is unlikely that you would need all those buttons to support game that only require digital input so you should consider carefully which buttons are actually required. Additionally I do not see how you could physically arrange all those buttons in a way as to be easily accessible and therefore useful, considering that one hand would be in use holding the controller base and the other on the joystick the only place you could put the switches where they would be usable without having to relinquish your hold on either the controller base or Joystick to operate them would be to have four on one side of the base and one on the opposite side for operation using the fingers and thumb of the hand holding the controller base and some on the side and one on top of the joystick. Even then the narrow slim line controller model would probably be required as many people would not have hands large enough to reach around the larger, squarer (CX40?) style controllers to access the buttons. You could implement a full set of buttons using less physical buttons by utilising a combinations of buttons, i.e. X + 0 = Triangle, this would be best implemented using a PIC or other type of microcontroller which you will need to use and program anyway as the PS uses an SPI serial data bus to communicate with the controllers.
