True "Semi" TI Portability -- It's all coming together for the masses!

An expanded TI has never been described as "portable"! :P

There have been attempts over the decades, but they've not exactly been something 'for the masses'. Times change and things are finally starting to come together.

1) Ralph's --------- FlashROM 99

2) JediMatt42's ---- Plug-N-Play 32K

3) Matthew180's ---- F18A

These three items combined shrink things down to semi-portable levels.

With the FlashROM 99 you can load up a lot of games without having to carry a disk drive unit, a cassette recorder or multiple bulky cartridges.

With the Plug-N-Play 32K size is reduced to nearly the size of the console itself!

The F18A, combined with a VGA to HDMI controller will allow you to hook up to nearly any modern TV in a hotels or motel.... and who knows where else... maybe the next Chicago Faire or Fest West?

As still a new 99er I have not really thought about the portability - I don't have a PEB, just a bare console, so mine is pretty portable save for the power brick :) but also my system is not fully kitted up. Given where I am with the FPGA project I think it will not take many more months to have a complete TI compatible system, with all the expansions, in a very small space. I still am not done with the FPGA implementation - notably mass memory has to be implemented one way or another - probably with SD card support. But regardless on how the result will look like it will be small enough to fit inside the original TI casing, and it will not require a lot of power either, so it probably could simply be powered with a USB charger or battery.

If you are running an emulator on a laptop then you already have a portable 4A! I've been running Classic99 on my laptop since 2003!

/OPINION MODE ON

Well 'like' the real thing, close, but not quite the same. Don't get me wrong, emulation has it's uses, I love Classic 99, even made a donation to support it, considering I use it all the time, but more in a support role.
