What in your opinion, is the very best light gun system? Both for quality/accuracy of the gun, and the depth of the available library? Feel free to list some of your favorite light gun games as well!

I have a massive CRT curved Tube TV and I am looking to expand my horizons.

Currently have an NES, SNES, Genesis, Saturn and Dreamcast hooked up to it.

My favorite Light gun games:

NES

Duck Hunt (obviously), Hogans Alley, Gotcha! The Sport

SNES

Lethal Enforcers

Sega Saturn

House of the Dead, Die Hard Trilogy, Virtua Cop 1&2, Area 51

Sega Dreamcast

House of the Dead 2

I picked SMS only because I use to love playing RAMBO III, Safari Hunt, and Missile Defense 3-D. Always liked the look and feel of the light gun too.

A strong second (IMO) is the Saturn for Virtual Cop and Area 51. Played them a lot too.

Oh man, this is like asking me pick a favorite child! :o

If I had to choose just one though... the Nintendo Wii. If you're into blowing away nightmarish monsters with a plastic gun it's really hard to beat the the Wii library.

You've got Dead Space Extraction (undoubtedly the most deep and story driven on-rails shooter ever made), The House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return, The House of the Dead: Overkill, Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles, and Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles. Then there's a few other good non-monster related on-rails shooters like Ghost Squad, Dino Strike, Gunblade NY & L.A., and Heavy Fire: Afghanistan. There are other on-rails shooters on the Wii as well, but those are the ones that I think tend to play the best.

As far as Wii light gun conversion grips for the Wii remote go, I really like the Nyko Perfect Shot, CTA Sure Shot, and the official Wii Zapper. It really depends on the game which I prefer to use, but if you were only going to get one of them then I think the Nyko Perfect Shot is a good all around choice. :)

My runner up pick for the best system to play light gun games on is definitely the original PlayStation though. With arcade classics like Area 51, Time Crisis, Lethal Enforcers I & II, and Crypt Killer you really can't go wrong. The Japanese and PAL versions of Resident Evil: Survivor that had GunCon light gun support were pretty nifty too.

One of these days I'm finally going to try the PlayStation version of Area 51 with a light gun. I have both a PS-compatible light gun and a decent CRT TV to play on; I just haven't had the chance to put those two together. I played that game to death in the arcades, and if it's half as good on the PlayStation as it was in the arcade, that just might become my favorite console for gun games.

Until then, I'd probably say the NES for Duck Hunt and Hogan's Alley.

My thoughts

Top Gun: Nes Zapper-So crisp and so accurate after all these years...Nothing beats that click and metallic twang noise.

Top Library: The Wii, for sure. A system built for light gun games with the library to show it.. Plenty of fun to be had.

Top Fun: Sega Saturn-Between Virtua Cop 1&2, House of the Dead, and Area 51, have had way too much playing these and a few others, love the chunky 32 bit graphics which always make me feel like i'm in a mid 90's arcade.

I have never owned a light gun for pS1, w or 3 but given the success of the first two they must have solid light gun libraries. Anyone got any recommendations for great PS1/2 light gun games?

I'm not too familiar with the PS2 or PS3 light gun library, but for the PS1 the "must haves" for light gun fans are:

Area 51

Crypt Killer

Die Hard Trilogy

Elemental Gearbolt

Lethal Enforcers I & II

Maximum Force

Point Blank

Point Blank 2

Point Blank 3

Project Horned Owl

Time Crisis

Time Crisis: Project Titan

It's also worth noting that the PS1 had two different types of light guns, the Namco GunCon and the Konami Hyper Blaster / Justifier (the name varied depending on what side of the pond you live on). About half the light gun games on the system were made for the Namco GunCon and the other half were made for the Konami Hyper Blaster, and aside from Elemental Gearbolt and Maximum Force they all only worked with one of the two types of light guns but not the other. There are some third party PS1 light guns that have both GunCon and Hyper Blaster functionality built in, but in my experience they tend to not be as accurate as the official guns from Namco and Konami.

For the best gaming experience I'd recommend picking up one of each of the two official light guns if you want to explore the PS1 light gun library. :)
