Tracking?

Why are trackers like Google Analytics and especially Facebook Connect and Google+ Platform used at AtariAge forums?

The homepage also uses DoubleClick.

Something like Shariff would be much more acceptable.

Google Analytics is so I can see how much money I'm not making by not putting ads on the site. And it's useful to see how many people are using the site, where they are coming from geographically, etc. Facebook and Google+ are used by the forum so people can share pages, and there are components that allow you to login via those services as well. DoubleClick is part of Google, I'm not explicitly loading anything from that. The front page currently has several embedded YouTube videos, that's where the doubleclick.net references are coming from.

I certainly am not going to put any effort into modifying the forum software to use something like Shariff, as that would be a very significant amount of work. You'd need to lobby Invision, and I suspect they would not be interested. It's likely the next version of the software is more tightly coupled with social media services than what we're running here.
