Arcade USA - Atari Flashback Portable Review!

Recommended Posts

Great review as always. My complaints will always be control with these things. A D pad is a poor substitute for a joystick and certainly no substitute at all for a paddle controller which makes a handful of games on it unplayable IMO. Otherwise its a neat product and the SD card certainly makes it a more attractive product.

Willy, could you please produce a list of those 91 games that work on the SD card? Thanks!

So far 90 games (freeway does not work, the chicken never gets hit so not 91 games).

I also tested two homebrews - Princess Rescue and Seawolf and both work. I am waiting to get a production unit to do further testing. Trying to get a google doc set up to make a lisiting of what games work.

Could you test out BMX Airmaster and\or Smurfs Rescue please? After watching your video this little portable doesn't look too bad and I might actually buy one now :)

I know I've lurked a long time, recently registered and this is a first post here after being recommended by a member.

But, I'd like to really thank you for your efforts in reviewing this device. In the past I owned just one of these before, the fairly legit 2nd release that had the etchings on the board to add a cart slot to it before it went with a cheaper way of it. This here actually makes me want to own an ATGames handheld other than my awesome closed SMS/GG device I keep around.

I've always had an odd relationship with the 2600 in that I never got huge play from the usual and customary that end up on those modern devices. I've been a fan of all the lovely third party stuff, especially the arcade/console conversions like the DK and Mario games, Sega stuff, etc. This allows it, finally. I really should grab one of these. I tried to the other day, my local Meijer is selling the console version along with the shoddy Genesis one for 50% off this week if anyone is looking. They didn't have or were out of the handheld or I'd have picked it up.

Thanks again for the video, it's very helpful.
