The UAV Rev. D Video Upgrade Thread

Recommended Posts

I did install the UAV Rev.D on my 2600 junior (PAL), see picture. I removed the 4050 and put in the UAV as replacement. Black wire is color.

Well the picture is very good via S-Video, but very dark. It also seems the color are a bit to much. Can someone tell me, if there is something wrong with my modification? Maybe it needs other jumper settings. I just did use the jumpers configuration which are shown in post #2 for 2600.
Same UAV on my Atari 7800 works perfect. Clear picture and colors are great.
By the way, at what pin I should pick up the Audio signal?
Appriciate any help.

I just want to let everyone know that I'm in the process of moving from Costa Rica to the US and I'm not going to be very responsive for a few weeks.

The waiting list for my remaining units is full. I will ship out the units I have and order more boards once I get back, and I will contact everyone who didn't get one this time. Thank you all for your patience.

YEEESS. That's the right jumper setting. Now, everything looks great on my 2600 junior. Perfect !! Thanks a lot.

Still a question regarding the audio signal. Which is the best pin to pick it up from the board?

1. Sorry, I missed that the Jr. is different from the others.

2. Umm.. not sure. I have a Jr. coming to me when I get back. There must be some plans out there somewhere for an AV mod that has it.

I love my upgrade BTW!!

Best looking 8bit on the screen I have ever seen.. and con80.sys now very read-able. I can use TLW wp looks great.

My issue I thought I had btw -- - this 800xl was already modified with the simple video mod you originally did Bryan.

SO i had lifted L5 and ran a +5 from another source.

BUT - when I installed your UAV, I removed the various wires from the previous on board mod, because I figured I wont be using the onboard circuit anymore... BUT I still needed the +5 volt which I had removed..

THIS is why I got the BSOD, AKA nothing!.. put the +5v back.. and I am off to the races.

LOVE IT!!

I'm going to do another run, but it'll be after April when I get settled in to my new place.

I'm also going to get going on my universal audio board for the 400/2600/5200/7800 (and possibly others) which will be very easy to install.

Then, on to a couple other upgrades I've been pondering. One thing I've been thinking of a is a UAV 2 that can be adjusted under software control. Being able to change the artifact colors on the fly would be pretty neat IMO (at least in NTSC land, I haven't thought of a way to implement it in PAL with a post processing device like UAV yet). You could set the colors you want with each game.

Byran, on some programs, I am noticing what looks like artifacting on the LH edges of the text/graphic.. I will try and take a picture.. but you have to look to see it I wonder if my phone camera will pick it up off the screen.

Is this something I adjust? maybe its a saturation thing? I wonder if its things that are being continually updated by the software, so its almost like a refresh haze.. I will try and post a pic.

Bryan,

When you create the UAV 2 would it be possible to make it a drop-in for the the previous version? Reason I ask is that the 1088 XEL board would require this for compatibility reasons.

My plan is to keep the form factor the same. I would probably keep making a version 1 anyway since some people wouldn't want/need additional features (like 2600 users).
