Timothy Kline
I haven't found anything yet, so maybe asking here will yield better results... but I'm wondering if there is any point-of-sale software available for the Atari 8-bit? Off-topic: What about for the Atari ST line? Thank you, in advance! Tim
factus10
There definitely were POS options for the ST: Hobbytown USA used to use STs as cash registers back in the 90s. Here's an old thread: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/118558-running-a-business-with-an-atari/ Edited January 20, 2017 by factus10
Mclaneinc
I very doubt for the 8bit although we had our stock ordering system for Maplin on an XL it was not a POS system, eventually they got a dedicated POS system for the shops written in house by a tech wiz called Mark. This will do until I stumble across a physical copy at some point. I'm mostly curious in seeing how my system will do with software like that and how the software runs on it— and point-of-sale software's not something you usually connect with Atari 8bits. --Tim
_The Doctor__
There were! I bought my XF551 that was converted to 3.5 inch from a fellow in Pennsylvania who sold them complete with cash drawers.. he was closing it down and I bought a bunch of Atari stuff and interestingly a crap ton of cable running supplies... miscellaneous odds and ends.... someone might remember who and what given those clues. oh and it was 1993 when he shut down and I bought the stuff. (I wasn't interested in the POS) just the supplies and Atari specific stuff) Edited January 20, 2017 by _The Doctor__
walter_J64bit
WOW, a POS for the A8!
LoTonah
I wrote one for the C64 back in the day. It was for my (then) girlfriends bookstore. Took care of inventory, ordering, A/R and A/P and RTV functions. Did it on my C64 instead of the A8 because: the program was written to EPROM (I had a PROMQueen burner already bought and paid for) and I didn't want to give up my A8! Later I ported it to the Atari ST in HiSoft BASIC, just because I wanted to write it without all of the PEEKS and POKES I had to resort to to get things done on the Commodore. Sorry if this post doesn't actually help, I just started reminiscing when I saw this topic.
FlorianD
sound like a nice project. what are the requirements, what should the program be capable of? Maybe somebody wants to try to code a POS software. ...and no Oracle, SAP, Dynamics, Agresso compatibility requests please. +save2600
There definitely were POS options for the ST: Hobbytown USA used to use STs as cash registers back in the 90s. Wasn't aware any others retailers used the ST as a POS, but in a bit of irony, a local Amiga store (Software Plus) used an ST with that sharp b/w monochrome monitor as one. Owner wasn't interested in selling Atari stuff or using the ST for anything else... just used it to run that end of the business. Not sure if it kept track of inventory and was responsible for printing receipts, but makes sense that it would. Seem to remember hand written receipts during those times too, so who knows.
+Ripdubski
Reviving for additional data. Compumax had one for sale called simply "Point-of-Sales". It was listed at $200 in August 1983. They also sold Microledger ($140), Accounts Payables ($140), Accounts Receivable ($140), Inventory Control ($200), and Payroll/Personell (CA) ($200). Compumax PO Box 7239 Menlo Park, CA 94025 (415)854-6700 I'd like to see it if anyone digs it up. 1
