One the cross part of the pad is separate, the other, it's attached to the plastic circle around it. I own models with both, and there's not a huge different in terms of play, though I slightly prefer the separate one (the top in your pictures). I can't remember if it's also related to the Lynx model with different colour buttons. Some Lynx 1's have grey buttons, matching the body. Others have black.
