Facebook deleted Vectrex Roli

I'm seeing people in the Vectrex groups on Facebook stating that they deleted his account. Apparently as part of their "real name" policy.

The thing is, their own FAQ states it must be someones commonly used and/or professional name. I've ALWAYS known him as Vectrex Roli.

Anyway, if this is true maybe a little public outcry would help.

More BS in a world that seemingly doesn't have enough of it. Haven't the games and system itself been declared as abandoned or public domain? Seems that happened quite a while ago...

-edit- ...and I was right:

In the mid-1990s, Jay Smith, then head of Smith Engineering, released the Vectrex product line into the public domain

Thanks for caring about that, my wife always says I have no friends, so I can proof that there are at least a few people that did realize that my Facebook account was gone. ;)

I didn´t get any message, reason or anything from Facebook, it just was gone and I could not log in again.

I don´t think it has something to do with I.P.s or anything like that, the soulless bots working for Facebook don´t really know what a Vectrex should be I guess.

I also think that Facebook would not really really take notice of a public outcry from the 10 people watching my little hobby channel on Youtube, but I really appreciate that you had that idea Gemintronic. ;-)

I could not setup another Facebook account yet, maybe I need a new email address first or something? But I will give it a try when I have more time.

All the cool kids hang out here anyway, so can ditch Farcebook!

Can just set up misc. threads here when you have a new vid or something. :)

I will post my videos here anyway. :-D

The only first real reason for me why I did join Facebook was the Vectrex Fans Unite Facebook group and it is an easy way to get in touch with all the developers out there that make all that great stuff for Vectrex, Atari Lynx, Sinclair ZX Spectrum, TI-99, Amiga and all the other systems.

Why fight with a service that has clearly stated and demonstrated censorship objectives? Piss on FB...so many alternatives...

Unfortunately, it's the most used service. You want any attention for your projects it has to be involved.

Another sucky thing is it takes a critical mass of people to take objection to bad behavior. Their own FAQ says common and professionally used names are AOK. Just leaving isn't always the best option - certainly not for the community at large.

UPDATE: I don't mean Roli should take up more responsibility. I just mean no matter how small or large the community member is this effects us all. So, action is better then ignoring or bypassing. Even just little things like stuffing their support box or spreading awareness. Dumb corporate decisions are harder to get away with when it's made public.

When I had the same thing happen, I had an email from FB to the actual email I use to log into FB. I sent them proof of my actual name (which I wasn't using) and requested a name change to that. They did that. So I'm a bit surprised to see you get no email Roli. Check junk/spam folder?

Would it be too hard or less successful to have a Facebook page that mentions/links to a dedicated website for your Vectrex reviews? I don't use Facebook for the many obvious reasons (time drain, no privacy from Facebook company, censorship) but another thing that has always bothered me about Facebook is the hideous look of the typical front-end. So having a dedicated website with a cool/unique design, that you would control, would be much better. You'd still have the Facebook presence, just use it to announce your new videos or whatever you feel like talking about that are on your real website. Nobody would be able to tell you what to do, either.

Sorry to hear about this. If you do decide to take another stab at it, make a personal Facebook profile with your real name. Then, create a fan page under "Vectrex Roli". Fan pages can pretty much be named whatever, but they require a legitimate personal profile to be created.

Yes I am back on Facebook again, let´s see for how long. ;)

Didn´t setup any fanpage though, due to lack of time I didn´t look into all those Facebook features and I guess that´s more interesting for big successful or commercial Youtube channels and not for super small hobby channels like mine.
