Shell Service w/ Phone Modem Support

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I'm thinking about opening up my Raspberry Pi 3 server to the "public" aka AtariAge to be accessed via a Dial-Up number.

I'm installing a 9600 Baud Hayes Smartmodem that will be connected via a dedicated VoIP line, which should work at 9600 Baud. It isn't set up yet, but when it is, I'll post more details.

Feature would include:

  • MUTT, a command-line e-mail client.
  • LYNX, a command line web browser.
  • IRC chat client w/ server
  • Command Line Twitter
  • Limited file storage

... and much more.

I'll probably open up Telnet and SSH ports for those with Lantronix or more modern equipment, in addition to the dial-up number.

Please let m know your interest level. What computer would you call in with?

Best,

George

I thought this idea might be more popular? icon_mrgreen.gif

Maybe, I forgot to mention of course this would be free.... maybe that will create more interest!

Also, that sounds good Opry99er, I think my Raspberry Pi is set for for VT100 emulation by default. Hopefully you can support that? Otherwise I'll have to see what other terminal emulations are available.

Well you already know it Grim after we dialed each-other and all, but yeah I'm in.

Got the Apple II and Micromodem II, I think my IBM 55SX has a dial-up modem I never played with before, and I have random SmartModems and all laying around to mess with so I think this would be fun.

Haha, you took a picture! Awesome!

Yeah I think this is going to work based on the tests we did yesterday. 9600baud seems to be slow enough that it works over VoIP.
