Grimakis
Hi all, I just picked up a Mac 512k for a very good price, and have set this guy up on a spare desk. Unfortunately I don't have a boot disk. I've got a few possible options. 1) Buy a boot disk w/ MacTerminal and other utilities. Get an RS-232 to RS-422 adapter and a pile of blank floppies. Transfer software from PC via xmodem. 2) Drop some serious change on a Flash device. http://www.bigmessowires.com/floppy-emu/ This Floppy Emu is about the only option I could find for my model, although I'm sure there are others. Anyone been down this road yet? Pros and cons to both ways?
Flojomojo
$132 seems like a fair price for something that specialized. Personally, I wouldn't bother with that old hardware, even as a classic Mac fan, but that's my opinion biased by an aversion to clutter and old stuff that's hard to fix. If I understand it correctly, I can transfer Mac rom files on a SD card, put it in the floppy emu and run it on the Mac?
fimbulvetr
I have a floppyemu. It is a great piece of kit. You just load up disk images and the mac treats them like actual disks. Even better is the HD20 hard disk emulation, which acts like an up to 2GB hard disk. Well worth the money.

fimbulvetr
No, you just eject the disk image the same as if it were a real disk by dragging it to the trash, then select another image to load on the floppyemu.
Flojomojo
Can you boot from different disk images on the floppy emu? Some Mac programs are fussy about the boot volume, and some games want you to start up from their disk.
fimbulvetr
I've never booted off of it, but you can select the disk at startup on the floppyemu screen.
Grimakis
In my case, I have to boot off of it. It turns out my internal drive doesn't work I may disassemble it. It looks like it needs cleaning and lubrication.
fimbulvetr
I just tried it out, and I could boot off the floppyemu no problem
