800XL parallel port docs/info?

The article is a little dated in terms of technologies (most people implement the logic on CPLDs or FPGAs nowadays instead of a pile of discrete 74HC series logic gates), but the overall system description and example are worth understanding. The article describes how to make an extremely simple UART device, including a hardware design, and a very simple software driver in 6502 assembler. If you have any computer engineering background at all it's pretty straightforward.

Apparently the article was written by the former project lead of the ill-fated 1450XLD project. :-o

The Parallel Bus Interface (PBI) port? Here you go. I combined this into a single PDF from several issues of ANTIC Magazine. I removed ads where I could just for clarity.

There's lots of other info out there, too. I'm just starting up a PBI project myself.

Thanks for that - it's a great resource.

When I started developing PBI firmware, I found these articles useful:

Glad to help. I also just took those 3 articles you linked and reformatted them and made them into a single PDF for future reference. Thanks for the links, I had not seen those articles before!
